After the EMTs took him away, I was late for school. When I came in, everything was normal. The episode this morning didn't bother me in anyway, so I decided not to tell my best friends about it.
When I came in, everyone was going to second period. I went directly to my locker, which was on the West wing of the school. It took me a couple of minutes to make it there, and when I did, I entered my combination in. Hearing the click, I pulled the door opened and got out my physics book and binder. Just when I was about to close my locker, I heard a voice.
"Dude!" Immediately, I knew who it was. The synesthesia in my mind caused it to be recognized directly. I kept my head straight and prayed to God, actually, begged that I wasn't about to get hit. I continued putting my things in my backpack and closing my locker. Anger came through me when my next class was in the same direction as Ashtyn.
"Damn." I whispered to myself. I turned and saw the eyes directly on me. Those blue sapphires piercing through my head and directly into my soul. I hope she isn't mad.
"Hey." I said a couple of yards away. Her eyes immediately dilated and a scowl replaced the anger.
"Are you serious you f*ckwad, you were my ride." Walking up to her, I immediately forgot what she was saying was true.
"My bad, I was tied up at home with my dad." I easily lied like it was going to be done. Walking past people, we made our way to class.
"F*cktard, you're lying, I called your Dad, he said you left already and should've been on your way." Damn, I'm caught. My expression didn't change as I kept walking and going with the lie.
"Where's Asher?" I asked trying to change the subject.
"I don't know, but you're not getting off that easy. I had to WALK here." She was pissed, I could definitely tell. I mean it completely crossed my mind.
"I'm sorry!" I said as we kept walking.
"If we have sex, will you forgive me?" I asked curiously. I was kidding. I mean the girl was one of my best friends.
"Shut up." She playfully pushed my arm.
"It didn't hurt to ask." I said innocently. A smile made it's way onto her face, and we made it to the classroom. I saw Asher sitting in our area.
"What's up Ash?" We sat down at the lab tables and the empty seat was gone. Just us three good.
"I'm tired, what's wrong with her?" He made a tired expression and looked at her. Pointing the end of his pencil in her direction, I got the book out of my backpack.
"Nothing, she had to walk here so she's pissed." She was glaring at me, and I could tell that she would go to jail for murder.
"Where the hell is your phone?" She asked. Good question.
"Uh, my pocket." I patted my jeans and felt the impression it made. Taking it out I waved it in her face and noticed the blue LCD light blinking. I pressed the home button and checked the status bar. Calls and texts.
"Damn." I whispered under my breath. My Dads had called and texted me, along with Ashtyn.
"What?" He asked looking up from his computer.
"Missed calls from my Dad's." His expression changed instantly changed into a gruesome glare.
"Calls, as plural. More than one. You better go call back." Good point. I stood and walked to the corner of the classroom. The bell hasn't rung yet, so I shouldn't get in trouble.
One thing I knew for sure, is that if I called and he was in surgery, one of the nurses would answer and I'd be on speaker. That was all the time. He'd always call me 'kiddo' when I was. The line rang a couple of times, and I thought of what I was going to say to him.
"Hey kiddo." I heard beeping noises in the background as he spoke. Sensored.
"Hey, I'm at school now and just noticed I had missed calls from you." I said trying not to get in depth.
"Yes, Ashtyn called wondering where you were. I told her you were on your way. But the weirdest thing happened." I knew that voice.
"And that was?" I am not admitting defeat, so I will keep up this lie until the day I die.
"She said she called you and got no answer, and when I called it was the same, so.. The prognosis is, where were you?" I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. For god's sake, he was the friggin' human lie detector test.
"I stopped on my way to get coffee and left my phone in the car." Opening my eyes, I played with the end of my bracelet. The beeping noise kept going as I heard a mumble.
"That's weird because you always have your phone in your pocket." I closed my eyes, knowing I was in trouble. Mentally cringing, I listened on. "You would never leave it in the car." I paused and heard another mumble. The constant beeping was becoming irritating.
"SATS?" I huffed, I found a loophole.
"Dad, are you serious? You're in a surgery and on the phone with me. Your attention needs to be on your patient. Don't they need you or something?" At least that's a way to get off of the phone. I heard small chuckles coming from the room. After a couple of seconds he spoke clearly.
"Can you close?" I rolled my eyes, I wasn't getting off easy.
"Yes, no problem." I heard a voice.
"Nurse." His voice was clear and I straightened my stance in the corner. The phone made a noise and I heard footsteps. The beeping noise faded until I heard it no more.
"Dad.." I said wondering if he was still there or if the call dropped.
"Alright." His voice was muffled and I heard water.
"Dad, you can smell my breath if you want. Coffee." I said in surrender. Exhaling deeply, I turned back to see the teacher coming in. I had a good two minutes before class began.
"I believe you." His voice was clearer and spoke over the running water.
"Than why are we still on the phone?" I turned back around and sat in my seat. Asher and Ashtyn were looking at me listening and reading my facial expressions.
"Because I got a phone call saying you weren't in first period." There was no way out of this trap. His voice was stern and his parenting showed. Actually cringing, I decided.
"Dad, I got to go, class is starting. I love you, bye." I said quickly. Once it all came out I took the phone from my ear and heard him try to say something.
"Wa-.." I hung up and put the phone on the desk.
"God.." I muttered to myself and rubbed my temple. I'm in trouble.

Zoning back in, the bell rang as I had to make my way to Anatomy.. At least I won't sit through this lecture. Walking through the hallway, I caught the face of the person responsible for this all. Oh god. That week came in my head so fast, I remembered everything.
