I couldn't help the gasp of fear that escaped my lips as my best friend flew recklessly around a sharp curve. Trees and other cars flew past us in a blur of colors. I was gripping the oh shit bar as tightly as I could.
"Could you please not kill me?" I asked through my teeth as we narrowly avoided a head on collision with a silver car. Horns blared.
"Oh relax." Aimee said. "I'm not going to kill you. Don't you trust me?"
I turned my head to my best friend, to study her; and to be honest to not watch the road. She had a huge grin on her face as she drove. Her red hair flapping in the wind. Her green eyes shined with excitement.
"I do trust you. I do not, however, trust your ability to not get us killed in this flying metal deathtrap. Who buys their seventeen-year-old daughter a sports car?" I asked, turning my attention back to the road and immediately regretted the decision.
"My daddy." She winked at me.
"KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD!" I yelled as she swerved to avoid another head on collision. The driver provided a not so nice gesture out the window.
"You worry too much. You never let loose. Have some fun." Aimee said giggling. I sometimes worry that she has lost her mind. "Which is why we are going to a party after school."
"NO. I'm not going." I hate parties.
"Yes you are. You are going. You have no choice."
"But but I don't wanna go!" I whined. "I have a book report due on Monday, and I seriously doubt that Ashton will want to go." So I was lying, I knew for a fact that Ashton will want to go. He always wants to go to parties, with or without me.
"Scarlett. Don't lie to me. I know you've finished that report, and Ashton loves parties more than I do."
I grumbled. Of course she would call me out. So not fair.
"UGH! Fine. Yes, I've already finished it." I sighed. I could never win against her. It just wasn't fair.
"Wonderful, then you have no reason not to go." She grinned, before slamming the car to a halt in front of our high school. I sighed in relief and resisted the urge to fall to my knees and kiss the ground in happiness.
"What about the fact that my parents will kill me?" I asked swinging my bag onto my shoulder. Aimee's voice was muffled by the fact that her head was still inside the car.
"What?" I asked.
More muffled words came from the car.
"I have no idea what you are trying to say to me." I stated, leaning up against the side of her brand new car. We only had about twenty minutes before the first class started, even with Aimee's dangerous driving. Most of the students had emptied the parking lot and were headed inside.
"I said." Aimee huffed, appearing beside me. "That you can just tell your parents you are staying at my place. Daddy is going out of town on business and no one will ever know."
"I'm not getting out of this am I?" I asked in defeat.
"Nope." She said popping the P, like she would bubble gum.
"Fine. Fine. I'll go to the damn party. Who's is it?" I asked begrudgingly as we walked towards the double doors of the small brick building. We live in a rather small county town in the middle of nowhere. In a place like this, everyone has grown up with each other and everyone knows everyone.I was sure that this party belong to one of the more popular upper class men. They always did.
