I began to wake up that morning, already fearing the long Thursday ahead.
I groaned, exhausted and tired from the long night. For some reason, I decided it would be a good idea to stay up until four on a Wednesday. I knew I would end up suffering the consequences the next day at school.
It was a pretty Thursday, though. I had to admit. I could feel the sun on my back, hear the wind rattling the leaves in the trees, as well as the rushing water beside me. Most of all, I could feel a light breeze ruffling my hair-
Wait. What?
I forced my eyes open, and immediately regretted it due to the bright sunlight that immediately entered my eyes. I hissed out a curse, covering my eyes as fast as possible. I shouldn't be outside! I fell asleep! In my bed!
I shook my head again, this time slowly opening my eyes as I lowered my hands. I blinked quickly as they adjusted to the bright light. Then, I looked around.
I looked around, my eyes still somewhat narrowed. I was laying in a small flowery field. A running, pebble-filled river stretched past it, and a thick oak forest lay around the field, scattered trees within it. I was laying by a large tree. Birds chirped in the thick trees. A soft smell of honey and lavender was carried on the wind. The grass and flowers by me moved gently in the wind. Overall, it was beautiful.
Of course, there was the problem of the fact that I should have been in my bed. I began to get on my feet when a brown mass crashed out of the forest, darting across the field. I didn't even have time to react before it barreled into me.
I let out a surprised gasp as I was thrown onto the ground, the brown creature laying on top of me. It let out a deep groan, sitting up.
I opened my eyes again, I had closed them in the process of being knocked down. What I saw was the surprise.
"Oh my stars. You're a Zorua." I said quietly.
He- I had decided that after I heard his deep groan- looked at me, his hazel eyes wide as bowling balls. He paused for a minute to look at himself, letting out a higher pitched, nearly shocked squeak.
I had to admit, I nearly laughed. But the look of surprise on the Zorua's face told me something was up. That, and those eyes...
"Do I know you?" I asked, narrowing my eyes in confusion. He paused for a moment before opening his mouth.
"Is your name..." He trailed off before finishing his sentence. I blinked in shock.
"Damien?" I asked quietly, recognizing his voice all the same. He nodded quickly as he got off me. I sat up.
"Wait, why are you a Zorua? Why am I in a field? Why were you running...?" I asked, my mouth hanging open. He cut me off before I could say any more.
"Why are you an Eevee?" He asked, returning to his boisterous voice. The warmness in it already made me feel better. Enough that I barely heard what he said.
And suddenly, it hit me.
"Wait, I'm an Eevee?" I said, feeling my throat dry as I turned, staring at my new silver tail. I was an Eevee... A shiny Eevee. Meanwhile, he was a shiny Zorua. I just stared at it for a second.
"Oh my stars..." I paused, staring at my paws. I had paws? How was this possible? I was a human just the other night! And where did all the extra mass go? I was how large... a foot tall at most? Damien looked about 8 inches taller than me. I had to crane my neck to look up at him.
I shivered, suddenly feeling scared and nervous. I was stranded in the middle of a foreign world. Albeit with my best friend, but that didn't take anything away from the anxiety. Something suddenly came back to me.
