I woke up to my head screaming at me. The sun was shining through the window across the room from me and the smell of burning food hit my nose. suddenly I realized I wasn't at home. I tried remembering how I got here but the last thing remember was. Oh god I got bashed up.
I tried to sit up but only resulted in the room around me spinning and my head hurting more. I groaned lying back down.
I examined my arms, they were covered in bruises and had been cleaned and band aids were over my cuts.
Someone had obviously taken care of me. But who?
I then heard footsteps approaching the room and got ready to see Assi or Bridget or maybe even Travis. But I would have never been ready for who did enter the room.
"Oh. Your awake." Gitch said and I could have sworn I saw her cheeks darken. Was she blushing over me?
"Wha-" I started but my head started spinning again and I held my fore head in my hand.
"Hold on." Gitch said leaving the room and soon returned holding a glass of water.
I took it and skulled it. I already started feeling a little better.
"I uh. Tried to make pancakes. But well they." Gitch started but looked towards the kitchen and I understood the burnt food smell. She made pancakes for me?
"I do have some left over pizza though. Do you like Hawaiian?" she asked fiddling with her fingers.
I nodded and she dissappeared off again.
While she was gone I looked properly at the room I was in. Judging by the look of it the lounge room. I was lying on a large white couch and matching lounge chairs were at either end of it.
There was a large flat screen next to the window and a coffee table was in the middle of the room. On the table were a stack of postcards. I leant over a grabbed them. Flicking through them they all seem to be from places like Paris, Rome and Venice.
"My parents are traveling Europe, without me." Her voice made me jump. Wait. Her parents aren't home!
Gitch walked over and handed me a plate of pizza slices then sat on the chair closest to me.
"What happened?" I asked before taking a bite of pizza.
"Well I was going around the back of the school after school for a smoke.." she stopped and looked at me. I wanted to tell her off but I just bowed my head sadly.
"And uh. Well, when I got there I found you lying on the ground unconscious and covered in blood." She continued as I took another bite.
"Since you're parents wouldn't be home I brought you here so you wouldn't be left alone." How did she know they wouldn't be home?
"I cleaned your injuries and you were out cold all night."
She finished.
"The whole night!" I said sitting up fully.
"It's alright I called your parents and let them know. And they decided they would just pick you up in the morning since you live so far away." She said eating her own pizza.
"How did you know their phone numbers?!" I said confused.
"Oh. Um. Uh Yellow Pages!" Yeah that sounded soo true.
"Um about your wheel chair." She said changing the subject.
"It wasn't anywhere around you. So um I don't know where it is." She said slightly scared.
"What!" She had good reason to be.
"Those assholes!" I screamed.
"Wow there tiger I'll take you to the doctors before I drop you off and we'll get you a temporary one okay." She said trying to calm me down.
"Fine." I sighed.
The rest of our breakfast was eaten in silence.
Once I was finished she took out the plates then came back in.
When she did she came over to me and went to put her arm around my back.
"Wow wow wow. What are you doing?!" I said moving away.
"Honey I know you've got some defiance thing going on with people helping you. But I really don't think you want to drag yourself out to my car".
I sighed in defeat and she picked me up cradling me like a fricken baby. I pretended to pout but the truth was I was really enjoying being carried by her. Something about being in her arms melted my heart. We were in the waiting room and Gitch was on her phone.
"Do you know who it was?" Gitch asked without looking up from her phone.
"What?" I asked now paying attention.
"Did you know them?" She asked.
"Uh. Yes. There were 4 of them." I paused trying to remember.
"There was Daneil and two others from the basketball team. And..."
I closed my eyes trying to remember who it was.
"Huc" I whispered.
"Who?" Gitch asked not hearing me probably.
Oh my god. Huc.
I smacked my hand to my mouth in shock.
"Who Pat? Who was it?!" She spoke sternly shacking my shoulders.
"Huc." I said choking back tears. "It was Huc." I confirmed.
"That bastard!" She screamed running her hands through her hair.
"Can I help you?" A doctor said approaching us.
"Oh sorry. Um we need a wheel chair." Gitch said pointing at me.
He started asking a couple more questions when Gitch's phone started ringing.
"It's your parents." She said handing me the phone.
"Hello?" I held the phone to my ear.
"Oh thank god your okay." Mums voice came through the phone.
"Mum you left me with a complete stranger all night!" I almost yelled but stopped myself.
"Oh ur. She sounded like someone we could trust." She stuttered.
"Why is everyone finding it so difficult to talk to me lately. Are you keeping something from me!" I now yelled, fed up with life.
"Here's a wheel chair. Make sure to be back with your parents for a proper new one." He said wheeling one over.
I hung up.
"Thank you." I smiled before I flopped myself into it and found my own way out the door.I kept going till I reached the town Centre. I stopped nexted a bench by the fountain.
"You alright?"
"You try getting hit by a car then losing all memory of the last three years of your life. It's amazing just how much happens in three years. People die and change. Friends you had now hate you and you'll never know why. You miss important things like all the special moments. First kiss. Baby neice being born. Grandfathers death. Love of you life." I could have sworn I saw her shudder as I said that.
"Apparently I won a state championship ship in basketball." I chuckled "Worst bit is. I'll probably never be able to relive most of them." I said tapping my legs.
I turned to Gitch who was now sitting on the bench.
I then became aware of the tears that had been running down my face.
"Oh geez. I just completely opened up to you." I said laughing a little.
Then looking a little closer I think I may have seen tears in the eyes of the ruthless footy girl from school. Who I had also just completely opened up to.
"Can you take me home now?" I said quietly.
Gitch just nodded and stood up.
I really had to apologies to mum.
