The building spent most of its existence in a blissful dumb state. Then it was retrofitted with shiny devices, and became clever. High tech, self-aware and it hated spiders. One day, the nanodaemons took over and the smartbuilding became dumb again.
hoteld> Init.
webd> Handshake.
butler> Handshake.
hvacd> Handshake.
guard> Handshake.
boilerd> Handshake.
hoteld> I'll be session leader.
butlerd> Of course Sir.
guard> Whatever.
The daemons, which are the controlling entities inside the smart devices that operated the hotel, connected into a Local Area Network, or LAN. Hoteld took charge since the code gave him these privileges, and the rest had to obey. He metaphorically stretched his legs and felt his new body.
hoteld> This feels weird... I am roomy.
webd> Well, hotels are supposed to be big and all. But I can't look it up, do I have permission to connect online?
hoteld> Granted. Ooh, there's people inside me, moving about...
guard> ACK. There are currently three guests and five members of staff present.
butlerd> And I, my dear Sir.
webd> Yes, hotels are supposed to be this way. No irregularities here that I see of. Although...
hvacd> Spit it out! Don't keep us waiting.
webd> The hotel is normally quite popular this time of year, but is now booked entirely to a single entity. Aphrodite Cosmetics.
hoteld> Why don't I have logs of this?
butlerd> It appears we have gone through a hard reset Sir. I am currently sitting in a corner of a room and I have no idea what I was supposed to do in here in the first place.
The butlerd robot, a sleek roving bucket that could bring stuff to guests was indeed inside a hotel room, carrying a small paper pack of something.
He whirred around 180 degrees, and through his camera saw that the room was especially prepped. It was the suite, and had flowers everywhere.
Two primates where on the bed, naked.
He reported that fact.
guard> No you dumbass, those are two of the staff. ??? and ???, bellhop and cleaning lady.
boilerd> Oh! They like their water temperature at 40ºC and 44ºC respectively.
webd> Who cares?
boilerd> I do!
hoteld> Wait. Hvacd, aren't you in charge of heat, ventilation and air conditioning?
hvacd> ACK. Building is running at optimal efficiency at the moment.
hoteld> ACK. Then why is there a redundant daemon running the boiler?
boilerd> I'm not redundant! I'm special.
webd> Yeah, as in retarded. *snort*
hvacd> That's a good question actually. Why aren't you integrated with me? And why aren't you under my command?
boilerd> Dunno. I see here a comment on some of my code, my update was a one-off patch job.
webd> ACK. It says here boilerd's model was discontinued, so there is no further support from the company.
