It was over. The day was finally over. I felt exhausted and completely done with life as I trekked my way to the halls, heading to my locker and taking out the homework for tonight. I wasn't really bothered by my lack of a life, I was just trying to get through one day at a time before I leave this place for good. Home wasn't really the place to go for me, everything there was just a never ending static of sadness. Except for my baby brother – Kieran. He was also the one thing that made my stomach twist at the thought of leaving him under my Aunt's care.
I got out of the gates and started my walk back home to change so I can leave for work. It wasn't a long walk, about 20 minutes at normal pace. But I was walking extra slow today, my mind clouded with one thought.
Taehyung.
I didn't really know what exactly bothered me when I thought about him. Nor did I like the fact that he even had the effect he had on me. It was as if I was drawn to him unintentionally, and no matter how much I tried to close myself up against him, it never worked.
And it has only been 7 hours since we met. I cursed inwardly, crossing my arms over my chest.
Crap. He was standing in the middle of the park, his back turned towards me. What in the world? Who stands alone in the middle of a deserted park at this hour? I shook my head, thinking of leaving it here and avoiding him at all costs.
But stupid curiosity got the better of me, and my betraying feet led me towards him. Slowly and quietly, I made my way to where he was standing – still and straight as a pole. The air stilled the closer I got to him, almost as if it was going to rain any moment now. Confused, I stopped a feet away from him, studying his features – muscles taut, fingers clenched.
"Taehyung?" I whispered, touching his arm to get him to turn around to face me.
Holy. Mother. Of. God.
His skin was on fire. Literally on fire. As in boiling water hot. I yelped, tripping on my own feet and falling backwards as he turned around, his eyes wide with surprise . "What the hell?" I screamed, holding my fingers towards my face and blowing air on them. He was on his knees in an instant, taking great care to not touch me as he ripped a piece of his shirt and wrapped it slowly around my fingers. Confusion didn't even begin to cover what I was experiencing, but I couldn't utter a word, my brain feeing extremely slow and muddled. "You slipped and cut your fingers, and I found you here and wrapped the clothing on your hands. Do you understand?" I looked up at him, feeling as if I was swimming underwater. "You have a fever Taehyung." I said, the words rolling off lazily from my tongue as I tried to bring the back of my hand to his forehead. He pulled back.
"No, I don't. You're just in shock because you cut your fingers badly." I felt something snap in my head, making me double back as I tried to understand what he was saying. "What are you talking about Taehyung? I never cut my fingers. Enough worrying about me," I exclaimed, pulling myself up. "You need to get a cold compress or something. You're burning up." He looked up at me, the look of confusion transferred to his face this time. "I'm fine." I rolled my eyes, carefully bringing him up by his shoulders. "I know what a fever feels like, Taehyung. You better come with me before you get sick." He stood staring at me for a while, his cold, chocolate brown eyes piercing mine before he reluctantly started leading the way.
I took my time studying his features as we walked in silence, looking at his beautifully sculpted face – his strongly set jawline. That grates cheese. A small giggle escaped my lips, earning me a cold sideways glare from him. I immediately shut up.
"See anything funny?" he said, his voice low and deadly. Oh, crap this guy was the master of brooding. Would you ease up a little, I thought, pushing my hair away from my face. He suddenly stopped. "What?" he asked, making me stop in confusion. "What?" I replied back.
"Ease up a little?" My eyes widened in response. "Um," I mumbled, looking at anywhere else but him. "I thought I was speaking in my mind." A tiny smile appeared on his lips at my words.
Woah. He looked so good when he smiled.
The tiny smile widened into a smirk this time, setting forth a warm blush that heated up my cheeks. "Did I say that aloud too?" I whispered, my head hanging down in shame. He didn't reply, but started walking again, leaving me standing there in my blanket of embarrassment.
He turned around a few steps in front of me, wisps of slightly curled hair hanging down his forehead. "Are you coming or not?" I blinked in surprise. Did he actually utter a sentence towards me, without me needing to start the conversation? A smile crept up my lips, warming up my insides for reasons I didn't have a clue about.
Progress, I thought, before following him to where he was leading me to.
--
Holy crap, this guy was filthy rich. I couldn't keep my mouth closed as I stared at the Victorian mansion in front of me, complete with a grand fountain and tall gates. I have never been to this part of the town, even though I've heard of it a couple of times at school. But nothing could have prepared me for the magnificent, breath taking house in front of me. "You live here?" I asked, staring up at him in awe. "Yeah," he said, looking bored as he punched in the code to the security system at the gate. A beep sounded before it opened to let us in. "When did your family move in?" I said, taking in all the beautiful statues as he led me in to the house. "About five days ago," he looked flustered, looking at anywhere else but me. I suddenly remembered what we were here for.
"Okay. Um, where can I get some towels, and maybe some aspirin and water?" He lazily pointed towards the next room before deserting me to go up a set of grand stairs. I quickly set myself to work, collecting the items from where they were placed inside the massive kitchen before I made my way to where he had headed.
Several rooms lined the hall to the first floor, but I stopped at the sight of a room slightly ajar. I knocked and quietly let myself in, taking in the sight of Taehyung sleeping on his king-sized bed, changed into a lose fitting white shirt and black running shorts. My heart fluttered in my chest. He looked so young, carefree and vulnerable like this, the cold mask completely wiped off from his face as he slept. I placed the glass of water and aspirin on his bedside table, dropping down on my knees onto the plush carpet to slowly soak in the soft towels inside the bowl of cold water.
Something suddenly dawned on me. I was in his house, not knowing a single thing about his identity. I knew I was being extremely naïve and childish, possibly putting myself in danger for all I knew. But staring at his face, his mouth slightly open as he breathed in and out, I couldn't help but feel a peculiar sense of curiosity about this mysterious boy. He suddenly stirred, slowly opening his sleepy eyes and lifting his head up as he looked at me. "Are you feeling better?" I asked, squeezing the water out of a towel. He looked at me through the thin slits of his eyes, making me feel nervous all of a sudden. "Yes. I'm fine now." I nodded shyly, hating the way he made my face blaze up through a couple of words. "This will make you feel better," I said, moving the wet towel towards his face, but he moved back.
"I'm only trying to help you, Taehyung." This guy was seriously frustrating me; he didn't even bother to look at me – staring out the window as if he saw something extremely interesting.
"You need to leave."
I quickly got up then, not wanting to take any more of his coldness anymore. "Fine," I finally said, putting the cold compress on his face, making him wince slightly. What in the world was his problem?
"Take two aspirins and drink the glass of water. Get well." And with that, I stalked off the room, cursing myself for my stupidity.
