School was here again, my last, so I want to make it memorable. I may hate this town but its where I grew up so ditching in the dirt would be wrong although I'll admit, at times, I want to. Monday was here, August 19th, 2016, and I'm happy. I think. Maybe.

I pulled my hoodie over my head because today was brutally cold, some people strive for first impressions but unlike them, this is who I am.

Pulling my dusty blonde hair into a bun, I was braced for today, Seniors never worry about dressing nice more or so of which college they'll get into to. I grabbed my bag and schedule heading down stairs to Mom quickly eating breakfast and grandma humming as she read the newspaper's cartoons.

"Morning." I declared, I grabbed toast and Jam sitting myself across from mom.

A few days earlier we aired out that old house just as the newcomers came, it nearly made my allergies go nuclear wiping dust and fending off spiders. As much of a night it was we got it done for the new family, Mom was grateful we had gotten it all done.

"Hi Heather!" Grandma smiled, her wrinkled brace was beaming. "How did you sleep?"

I shrugged with a mouth full of toast, "fine, same as always."

She just kept smiling reading her newspaper, I looked down, she doesn't know what's wrong with her and yet......she's so happy. I stared at the toast in my hand, jam dripped from the toasted bread into my coffee, Grandma..... I'm sorry.

"Heather!" Mom's voce snapped, I looked up at her standing over me. "I need you to go to the pharmacy after school, pick up Mom's prescription."

I quickly looked to grandma, blowing out a breath I nodded. "Yeah, okay, I'll do it."

"Thank you." Mom smiled ruffling my hair. She picked up her bag leaving, not even a I love you.

Figures, she's always working, I guess that's what happens when your an adult. You get too busy working and forget all the I love you's, I hope I don't get like that.

"Hey kid!" Dad walked in with his greased stained clothes, ready to work.

"Morning." I replied, a mouth full of toast.

Dad rummaged around in the cup boards for his mug, "mom leave already?"

"Yep." I said popping the 'P' tossing away the remains of my toast to the cat. I pulled my bag over my shoulders standing my the door. "Bye pops, love ya." I gave him a quick hug goodbye.

"Love ya, Kiddo." He smiled, he filled up his mug with black coffee, no sugar just cream.

I looked to grandma, she still smiled to herself over the comics. Kneeling down beside her I put my arm around her. "Bye grandma, I love you."

She didn't hear, she just smiled at her comics.

I stepped away to the door, I blew out a breath, as long as she's happy. Walking out the door, I grabbed my bike from the porch climbing on, time for my nightmares. I pedaled away.

The highschool was already filled with cars and excited teenagers when I got there. I chained my bike to the railing walking up the tall steps like so many others. The sound of too many mouths talking already got on my nerves, I sighed, the year has begun. I pulled my schedule, my eyes glazed over it looking over my classes. AP U.S History was first hour and Eng 12 was second, I crumbled the paper shoving it in my pocket. Great. I pushed through crowd to Ms. Foster, the room was rolled except for a few in the middle. I grabbed the first one, school was already a pain.

"Heather!" A shrill voice called, looking up u saw my old friend from lat year bouncing toward me. Her long red curls bounced all over her head.

"Oh, hey Katy." I smiled forcefully, she hugged me tightly sitting next to me. "How are you?"

"Me? Oh fine!" She replied, "my summer was great, how was yours?"

I shrugged, "I'm not going to lie when I say it wasn't the best I hoped for."

"Why do you say that?" She frowned peering at my eyes.

"Just wanted more excitement." I pouted.

She raised their eyebrows then smiled brightly, "excitement? Then you'll love this!"

"What?"

"A family moved from New York to this town!" Katy exclaimed, "can you believe that? People moving here?"

Seriously? Who would want to move here?

"Why would they want to do that?" I asked sarcastically.

Katy shrugged, "who knows but I'm sure excited to see the new kids."

I huffed, she is such a tease when it comes to these things, I put my head into my arms, I just wanted the day to be over. I just want the whole year to be over with. Ms. Foster walked in calling us all to attention. I can handle this, its just another day in this world.....I can handle it.
