Now I lay me down to sleep,

I pray the Lord my soul to keep,

If I shall die before I wake

I pray the Lord

my soul to take.

"This is beyond ridiculous." I tell my parents for the umpteenth time since we got into the car. My head lies against the window of the backseat, a headphone in one ear as Panic At The Disco blares through it.

Mom glances at me through the mirror from the passenger seat."You might actually have a lot of fun this summer."

"Doubt it." I tell her, looking out the window as trees flash by quickly. It wasn't even the second week of summer and my parents were already whisking me away into some god forsaken town in the middle of absolutely nowhere. All while they party it up on a cruise ship to vacation in Hawaii.

"We're in the middle of the fucking desert, I haven't even seen one car pass us in the past forty minutes." I whine.

"Language." My dad scolds from behind the wheel which makes me roll my eyes.

"I don't even have cell reception, why don't I have reception?" I try to argue with them, let them know just how much of a stupid idea this really was.

"You'll be okay." My dad pipes in.

"I'm sure your aunt has reception at her house." My mom adds in, trying her best to cheer me up. All it does is piss me off even more. I sink lower into the seat hoping it'd swallow me whole.

The dirt road twists and turns and I begin to get nauseous. I could be at the mall hanging out with my friends but instead- I'm getting car sick. After another hour of driving I finally start to see civilization for the first time that day. We pass a large beat up sign that reads "Welcome to Wakefield." in dark red lettering. My mom begins to clap her hands excitedly.

"Look, look! We're here!" She's pointing out the window and spewing off some stupid facts about the town to my dad who probably wasn't even listening. After another few minutes of driving we finally pull up a long drive filled with trees on either side of it. My eyes land on the large - very broken down house.

"Doesn't Aunt Helen have a lot of money since Uncle Don kicked the bucket last year, why is her house still an absolute wreck?"

"KELSEY! Don't talk about your uncle like that!!" My mother scolds me. I can hear my dad laughing to himself and my mom smacks his arm giving him a look which makes him stop almost instantly.

"Sorry." I mutter as the car yields to a stop as does my social life. "Uhg, I still don't have cell phone reception." I say aloud but neither one of my parents are listening, they're already out of the car and talking to my aunt.

I get out too and lean my body against the door, starring up at the house. How was I supposed to live in this place for the next three months? It looked like something straight out of a horror movie. The whole town looked like a ghost town as we passed through to be honest.

"Why just look at how beautiful and grown up you look." My aunt beamed at me and I had to keep myself from rolling my eyes, afraid if I did they'd roll all the way to the back of my head.

"Thanks for letting me stay." I hide my bitterness with a fake smile, still pissed at the situation my parents had put me in.

"It's not a problem at all, I was thrilled when your mother called. The whole town is buzzing."

"What do you mean by that?"

"It's a small town, news spreads quickly here you know." My aunt winks at me and I suddenly feel uncomfortable from her words.

She grabs a couple bags from the trunk before she leads me up the old cemented steps of the porch. "Are you ready to spend the summer with your favorite aunt?" Her voice makes me instantly cringe.

I shrug, putting on a sarcastic smile, "As ready as I'll ever be!" I reply, mocking her cheery voice.
