Chapter 2: Movie Night
When my mum and I get to Hayden’s house, I look out the car window and see the house that I’ve practically lived in since we moved here when I was eleven years old. I say goodbye to mum as I get out of the car with my overnight bag. I knock on the large wooden front door and after the third knock Lena Smith, Hayden’s mum and my adopted mum answers and lets me inside.
“Hi Ruby, I haven’t seen you in a while” Lena jokes as I only came over a couple of days ago.
“Hi Lena, nice to see you too” I say.
“Hayden’s in his room, you know where to go” Lena says before I’ve even asked.
“Thanks Lena” I say as I make my way towards his room.
As I get to his room I can’t hear very much noise so I knock on his door and I only knock once before he opens his door to let me in.
“Hey R” he says using an old nickname he gave me.
“Hey H” I say using my old nickname that I gave him.
“You ready for an awesome movie night?” He asks.
“Definitely” I reply.
“Where are we having this movie night? Is it going to be in your home theatre room?” I ask.
“Yep” he says popping the ‘p’.
“Can I put my stuff on your bed?” I ask.
“Yeah, sure” he replies.
We make our way down with the DVD’s that I bought with me to the home theatre room where his DVD’s are. We both sit in front of the DVD cabinet to find movies to watch but we can’t decide what movies we both want to watch so we get into a fight about the movies we both want to watch. Lena comes in during the middle of our argument.
“If you can’t agree on movies I’ll choose for you. Got it?” Lena warns.
“Yes” we both say in sync, not wanting a repeat of when we kept disagreeing another time and ended up watching Sesame Street for the next couple of hours.
“Good” Lena says as she goes back into the kitchen, probably to cook dinner or get us some snacks.
“How many movies should we watch?” I ask.
“How about we watch twenty movies?” Hayden replies.
“That sounds good, what types of movies do we have?” I ask.
“We have; romantic comedies, comedies, sort of kiddy movies, horror, thriller, drama” Hayden replies.
“How about we have 3 of each?” I ask.
“That sounds good” he replies.
*******About one hour later*******
After more than an hour we finally have decided on the movies we want to watch. As we finish we remember that it’s nearly dinnertime and we probably shouldn’t start yet or get the snacks, so we just put on FOXTEL.
“What channel should we watch?” Hayden asks me.
“We should watch FOX8; I think The Fosters is on!” I exclaim.
“Oh no, come on you make me watch this so much” Hayden complains.
“You know you secretly love it” I say.
“Yeah I do but, don’t tell anyone” Hayden replies.
I start laughing so hard that my laughing becomes quiet. Hearing the loud laughter Lena comes in to check what’s going on.
