26: First and Formal
A peppiness hung in the air next day. At first, the most it showed was Georgia Rose’s squeaky questions about Marcel and rants on how she wished she could have a relationship like ours – considering the most hers ever lasted was a week tops – which didn’t stray from normal routine. But that all changed first period.
The morning announcements came on as per everyday, spoken in monotone voices anyone could use to fall asleep. However, today everyone had their hearts flutter as student council reps came on, announcing with their shrill squeals the first dance of the school year.
It was a tradition at this school to have a big party as the first dance for everyone – like prom, only earlier. It was the event everyone looked forward to: the First and Formal. Girls would shop for dresses as delicate as the ones they’d wear to prom and boys would be in tuxes. There were limos and corsages all about. It was always a night to remember. This we explained to Marcel at lunch in the hall near our lockers.
“It’s this huge dance,” Georgia Rose purred, applying more cherry lip gloss to her pink mouth, “Everyone goes! It’s awesome!”
“Are you going to go with me?” Marcel asked me lowly, giving me adorable puppy eyes. He was almost begging me to agree, even though he knew I would. When I nodded, he grinned and kissed my cheek.
I shot Georgia Rose glare as she mused our romance with the pop of her lips.
“Do you want to do anything tonight?” Marcel asked me, changing the topic away from the dance.
“Like what?” I asked, pulling my history textbook from the shelf of my locker and tucking it beneath my arm. “Hollywood sign or bedroom?”
“I was thinking something a little different,” Marcel said over the ringing of the school bell. He looked to my blonde friend as he started down the hall on his own. “You can come too if you want.”
We watched together as Marcel disappeared into the flood of students. Georgia Rose, being the nosey priss she usually was, was jusmping for joy at the chance to observe us two on a date. I just sighed. This just meant she could manipulate us first hand. I found myself hoping no member of One Direction would be coming too. She’d flip.
“This is amazing!” she squealed. “Where do you think he’s going to take us?”
“I don’t know,” I muttered, shutting the metal door of my locker. “We’ve only been to three places.” Leaving out HJ, of course.
Georgia Rose shut her locker door along with mine just as my phone buzzed in the pocket of my jeans. I fished it out quickly as my blonde friend and I started to push through the crowd, seeing a new message from the bad boy himself:
Try to dress “older” tonight, ’kay? ;) – xMx
I really didn’t want to know.
