"Oh Crap!" I exclaimed looking at Aaron who was standing in front of me with a huge smirk on his face.
"You are an ass you know that," I said nervously pacing up and down my living room floor.
"After knowing me for 9 years if you just realised that then I'm sorry you know nothing about me," he replied back.
"I cannot believe that you waited till today morning to tell me this." I whined,"You knew I forget stuff like this."
"Like forgetting your best friends birthday?" he said.
I give him an evil glare and continue pacing. Okay now before you think me as completely as insensitive it is not my fault. I've had my hands full for a couple of days with my studies and well I had never been too good remembering the dates.
So yeah sue me. I forgot Stephanie's birthday.
"So what are you going to get her?" he said looking at me from the couch his green eyes looking at me in a way which clearly said that he was enjoying every moment of me panicking like there is no tomorrow.
"I got her the best gift ever," he said smiling.
"Oh finally get the balls to ask her on a date?" I say trying hard to think of a gift.
Aaron turns red.
"Look if you like her you should tell her." I say,"Its been a year just man up already."
"Well, it took me eight years to tell you and look how well that turned out," he said.
I stopped. It was true Aaron and I had known each other since we were ten. He had been my best friend and he had been mine. In school I had never shown a lot of interest to any of the guys but a lo of them and I had turned each and every one of them down, so naturally people started thinking that oh its Aaron who she likes.
My fault was that I had never bothered correcting them So on the day of graduation Aaron asked me out and I said a flat out no. I didn't even have to think about it. I did it mechanically as I had done it to every other guy who had asked me but this time I almost lost my best friend.
We didn't talk much that entire summer. I am usually amazing at keeping things to myself but that summer I was a mess. On the first day of college things turned for the better. Both of us got into one of the most prestigious business schools in California.
I had applied their because my parents had given me choice while Aaron had applied there for me and plus he actually wanted to study business. The minute reached on campus I started searching for him everywhere but after he made it clear that he was completely avoiding me I gave up.
Me, Nylla Holland, the most stubborn determined person gave up. I was partnered with Stephanie that day for the tour. That day was probably the worst moods I had been in and Stephanie yet somehow managed to cheer me up.
I mean ideally if you looked at the two of us you would never peg us as friends. She was tall about 5'11 while I stood at 5'2. She was nice, kind and sweet with her beautiful hazel eyes and long brown hair. WHile I'm irritable, rude, sarcastic and snarky with blonde hair and blue eyes.
When you look at Stephanie you know that she is going to be someone you can tell what you are really feeling and when you look at me you see a really short girl who looks innocent but is probably going to dethrone Satan when she goes to hell. (Trust me Aaron has said that to me a billion times.)
But somehow we became friends and somehow me the girl with major trust issues told her about my problems with Aaron and she managed to fix it. I don't know how but she just did. Thats probably when Aaron fell for her. Trust me he fell hard. I mean I should probably be offended about how fast he got over me but I knew that they would make a really cute couple.
But then just as different Stephanie was from me she was just as similar. She was completely clueless about just how much Aaron liked her. She ignored the very obvious signs which even I picked up on.
"Hello Earth to Nylla." he waves his hand in front of my face.
I break out of my trance just as the bell rings.
Shit! I am THE worst friend ever.
I grudgingly go and open the door to see Stephanie standing her long brown hair in a french braid and her hazel eyes sparkling.
"Happy birthday!" I yell as I hug her and she squeals.
I close the door behind me as she walks in and Aaron who was lazying around on my couch was now standing upright with a slight blush on his cheeks.
Awwwww.
"Happy birthday," he says shyly.
Sh smiles,"Thanx Aaron she says."
"So about your gift...." I say hesitantly.
Stephanie scans me for two-seconds.
"It's okay if you forgot I know you haven't been good at remembering dates."she says.
Great this is making me feel worse. I swear to god I should really start mugging up peoples birthdays.
"I promise I will make it up to you." I say,"No one Direction jokes for a month."
Aaron snorts.
"Seriously thats what you decide to give her?" he says.
Stephanie looks thoughtful.
"You promise that there will be none of those stupid puns?" she says.
"On my life." I say dead seriously,"Starting after this last one, Hey Aaron what is the one direction one direction cant go in?"
Aaron simply shrugs.
"Straight." I say and start laughing.
"This is why I am seriously considering her lame ass gift," she says sighing.
"Hey you have got to admit its pretty awesome." I say.
Stephanie simply shakes her head.
"Oh before I forget." Aaron says handing her small envelope,"Here you go Happy birthday."
Stephanie nods,"You know you didn't have to-OH MY GOD"
I think I just went deaf. Stephanie was holding the envelope in her hands as if she was holding gold. She grabbed Aaron and gave him a big kiss and hugged him.
"How did you get it," she said almost dancing with joy,"Thank you so much?"
Aaron had a really dorky grin on his face.
"Thats it," she announced,"You are going to make it up to me by coming with me."
"To what?" I say.
"This," she says a devilish grin replacing her feature as she holds out two tickets with One Direction written on it.
Crap.
