When George Lucas initially negotiated his Star Wars contract with FOX Studios, he asked for a deal that included the sequel, merchandising and soundtrack rights to the film instead of a cut of its profits, which the studio agreed to with no hesitation. Due in part to this deal, Lucas had earned over $3.3 billion before selling those rights to Disney for another $4 billion.
