Janus was startled from his thoughts when he heard voices from the upstairs, he shook his head in disbelief. Women. He saw few of their servants looked at the door where the noise came from. He sighed. Those ladies were really handful, considering they were supposedly the ones they should look up to.
He stood up from his chairs then proceeded to the stairs. He ought to stop the rising war before the lady warriors make their house a battlefield, literally. He motioned gossiping servants to continue in their works, which they hastily obeyed.
Thud.
Gods, what the bloody hell are they doing? He ran upstairs then opened the door, in his luck was not locked, then slammed it creating a loud bang.
On the floor, he found the two ladies, one faced down flat and the other on her knees.
"Blo-
"Don't you dare curse in front of us. We are still older than you." Alice, who was the one on her knees, stood up and tried to fix herself. "Why are you here?"
He helped Yvette stand before answering her question. "You were acting on your worst manner and so unlikely. You were actually giving the servants a story to gossip about, do you not know that?"
"Glad we provide them some entertainment." Alice answered nonchantly. "You did not answer my question.
"I heard a loud thud, instinctively I ran here to see if you were trying to kill each other."
" If we were then you would not even know it was happening. Surely a killer does not want to be discovered."
Yvette made a face as she was fixing her hair. "Your humor always fail you, Caroline."
Alice frowned the moment she heard her name. But then it curved up into a smile, mischief in her eyes. "Your mouth always fail you,Emilia."
Yvette despises her second name. Who would want to have a name after a valuable horse? She loathe it the way Alice loathe the name Caroline.
Janus, having no enough patience with catfights, cleared his throat and asked the question he should have asked minutes ago.
"Why are you having a heated argument?"
His forehead knotted when both ladies avoided his eyes.
Women.
----
The moment Janus left the room because their mother needed his presence, the tension between the two ladies rose up. Both were airing dark aura.
"Stay out of this Alice, I am warning you." Yvette's voice was laced with venom. But the younger lady did not even flinched at her tone nor her dangerous glares.
"You listen to me,Yvette. The moment your world crumble down, do not come seeking for me for I will never have in me the heart to help you. I will look forward the time you swallow and choke at your own words, I hope you will be full." With that, Alice retreated to her bedchamber, her breathing heaved. She closed her eyes, trying not to feel any regret for the words she had thrown to her sister. She prayed though, that everything will be fine.
She moved towards her closet to find another dress, as she was having difficulty in breathing from her current attire.
The dress was not the problem.
She knew that but she refused to acknowledge it. She had done what she had done. She chose to do it so she must prepare herself for the consequences of her actions.
But I only wish for her welfare.
She inhaled deeply as she tried to untie the ribbons at her back.
Being a woman is so bloody complicated. Why must we wear such dresses? It is so unfair that men can easily work on their clothings. She sighed as her dress fell on her ankles, leaving her on her undergarments.
She eased herself on a more simple silk dress, the one that her father gave her as present.
Father.
So many things but all she can do was sigh.
-----
Alice came unannounced in her bedchamber. She thought her sister will only ask for her help to find new gowns, how wrong she was.Her younger sister told her things she do not wish to hear and asked questions she refused to answer.
Yvette was furious. How could her naive sister, who was 4 years younger than her, tell --no, demand her to do as she wished? She was nothing but an ignorant in this world! How dare she, who had refused marriage for the past years, tell her of what is right or not?
She regretted not choosing one of her suitors when she was still on the demand market. Many were charming and had money but they were not enough. She thought that she deserve the best. Now, at the age of six and twenty, she barely had suitors who seek for her hand, if she had, they where never a match to her.
She would not repeat her mistake.
This is her chance, the only chance she could had,so no one can stop her plans. She will execute everything the way she had pictured, and she will have her sister begging at her feet.Lord Calloway was not her type but he is filthy rich and powerful.
She faced her mirror and stared at her reflection. She's a beauty. She has money. She is powerful. And she is wise.
A knock disturbed her.
"Yvette," she heard her mother call her name. She quickly open the door.
"Dress up. We ought to go somewhere."
"Where to?"
"Do not ask. You will know when we got there." With that,Lady Emerald left her alone.
----
"Where are you going Peter?" Gavin asked when he saw his brother dressed in formal, his hair neatly combed to the side.
"Somewhere."
"You sound like mother ,"Gavin grunted. Peter just shrugged.
"Leash our sisters, Peter. They are quite handful nowadays."
"They are both adults, they had their own troubles to deal with. I have my own too while you,on the other hand, should also behave well."
"Whatever do you mean?"
Peter gave him a cold stare. "Mother thinks you should also marry. You make her age fast. She is seeking for a possible fiancee for you."
"Do not jest about that." But Peter's face remained passive.
That is not going to happen.
Gavin grunted once more, throwing himself on the couch while he watched his brother leave.
Bloody hell.
