At this hour, the city is abuzz with life and activity. As the romance of the soccer match ahead of me tingled in the air, abstracted in the players of the previous day's match, my car hit into a pole. The car rolled over thrice and finally landed into a narrow ditch.
Lying on the hospital bed, as I experienced excruciating pain in my right hand, my head throbbed equally painfully. A swift tinge of sharp guilt surged through me as I recalled what I was headed for...I had just crossed the Masjid, yet, with an air of pure arrogance, I ignored the melodious 'Hayya Alassalah,'(come to prayers) and carried on into the opposite direction.
'Suppose this accident spelt my last moment,' a stream of tears began to cascade down my cheeks. 'As the following question lingered heavily in the air, 'in what way would I like to be presented before my Lord?' 'What legacy would I like to leave behind as a Muslim? '
'Have I truly led a life like a Mu'min?' I was hit like a thunderbolt as the undeniable reality started piercingly into my face, '23 years if my life I spent in utter ignorance, defiance, and rebellion against my Lord. I worshipped my ego and Shaytaan (Satan) to the minutest aspect of life. '
'Alas! I have been a Muslim in name only.'
'Ya Allah, truly you are merciful, your unconditional love steered me into the right direction. Despite my 23 years of rebellion, you gave me a second chance, a new life, a fresh outlook towards life. Had I not been intercepted by the accident, I wouldn't have comprehended my fate.'
The accident, without a trace of doubt was a blessing in disguise. ' WALLAHU YAD'OO ILA DARISSALAM,' (And Allaah calls to the home of peace (Paradise) )is now distinctly lodged in my mind and heart, whenever I recall the accident and ponder over the unconditional love of my creator for me...How often have you heard the saying, "there is a blessing in every adversity.?
Time and again we are faced with adversities in life but seldom have expressed gratitude. Look out for things to be grateful for when going through rough patches in life.
