The dark figures did not move. Miranda stared on those flickering lights that could be seen between the dark shadows. What is going on? Miranda ask herself, feeling unsettled by the silent treatment they got from those unknown, lurking at the edge of the forest.Martin glanced towards Miranda and saw the unrest in her, he decides, unwilling, to be a man and encounter that darkness lurking in the forest. He treads slightly forward, slowly closing the distance between them and the unmoving black dots. After a few meter he accidently steps on a branch, making a sharp noise, that echoes in the moist air. Both Miranda and Martin became distracted by the sound and turn their gaze away from the flickering flames and down onto the broken branch. It only took them a split second before they shot their eyes back again where the black figures were supposed to be.
“Where did they go?” Miranda shouts at Martin, “I don’t know,” he whispers quietly, he was almost afraid that someone or something would hear him. Although the forest was now empty, the silhouettes of the people were still burned into their eyes.
They both just stare at the now empty edge of the forest, wondering if the people and the lights was just an illusion made from the darkness and the wild fantasy they have. “Martin!” he heard Miranda calling him. “What is it?” he replies without averting his eyes from the forest. “Martin!” Miranda shouted louder this time, her voice was shaking. Martin became concerned by the tone of her voice.
While he prepared to turn around to face Miranda, a cold gust of air suddenly slide down his spine. His heart jumped a beat and his breath began to become ragged, sweat started to leak from his face, sliding down and making the collar of his shirt moist. Martin hesitantly began to turn his eyes around, head hanging straight behind. Martin felt like many minutes had gone by before he could see something take form in the corner of his eye.
