The demon screams in pain as the fire licks away at its fur, leaving spots of black skin behind. In its hysterical moment, it had managed to get free from the frame of the care, but with a price, one of the horns was offered to the flaming car.

In the light of the fire Miranda could finally see the whole body of the demon. A coal black fur was covering all of its body, and an unknown liquid was flowing out of its pores making the fur glisten. The horn which was left was formed like an iron rake, with thorns pointing in every direction from the hilt. The demon had two legs with goat hooves, two arms with hands looking like crushed glass was growing out of the skin. It even had a split in its stomach filled whit sharp teeth that even pierced its own flesh, making the blood constantly flowing out. It was a being from hell itself.

The demon was still not dead, only weakened by the wounds caused by the flames. Miranda looked around to see if she would find something that could finish the creature off. And there it was, lying right next to her feet, a sharp and long wooden stake. Miranda takes it in both of her hand and sprint over to where the demon was still screaming in pain, she reach the demon just as it raises its arms. Miranda knows that it is now or never, she plants her feet firmly in the ground and push her arms and the stake forward as hard as possible. As the chest of the demon and the stake make contact, Miranda could feel the stake pierce through the skin, digging into the flesh and bury itself in the heart of the demon.

Thick blood follows the wooden stake down to Miranda’s hands, making them sticky. The demon didn’t make a sound, it only stared down on Miranda with its blood red eyes filled with disgust. The life in the eyes faded away and the body sank together onto its knees, the head hanging lifeless.

Miranda breathed heavily as she stares down on the corps of the demon, she turns her head into the direction of Martin and walks over to him. She kneels down beside him and lays his head on her lap, moving his hair out of his face.

Miranda sat with Martin under the light and warmth from the fire the whole night, thinking of what the darkness had shown them. The morning sun was beginning to show over the treetops, letting the light slide across the grass and melt the crystals and rubies frozen by the moon. It comes as a surprise to both Miranda and the now conscious Martin when the corps of the demon become ash under the sun rays and is blown away by the wind, leaving only the wooden stake in its place.

Miranda and Martin stares after the remains of the demon, but nothing of the creature remains. They lean back, feeling the sun warm their cold skin and a sound of an engine could be heard in the distance. They smile at each other and close their eyes, in the end able to relax.
