Chapter 5

Part 2

* Eileen POV *

I didn't know what to do. I think I was shaking. " hi! I'm Elise" Elise said. " this is my sisters Eileen and Marina. Nice to meet you." After that, I heard her tell Theo all about our trip and she asked him if he knew if there was a place we could stay. "Sure!" He said. "Just follow me!" It took a while to get to his place, mostly because of the huge crowds. When we got there, I saw he had a tiny little cottage with a big pile of hey inside. "Sorry" he said. "This is all I have. I don't have any money." For the first time, I finally had the courage to speak. "That's ok. We're poor too." I said. He stared at me for a while, then shrugged and told us to come in.

That night, I couldn't sleep. I was thinking about mostly the same questions over and over: 'when were we going back home?' 'What did Theo think of me?' 'Were we going to get lost?' 'Were we going to find the fortune in the first place?'

I thought about waking someone up, but then decided not to. It was old and the only light was the moon.

I looked around the room. I had always thought we were so unfortunate and poor, but now I saw that we were way luckier than Theo.

I see that all Theo had was a little stool for a table, a plastic plate, and piles of hay. But it was a lot of hay. I began to think how miserable Theo's life would be. As I looked around again.

Then I saw that Theo was gone. I began to worry. Then I saw him come in. But he came in with something big. Something HUGE. it barely fit in.

I gasped. What was that?!

Theo POV:

I didn't know Eileen was awake. Ann, my buffalo, had a rope around her head, which I held on to.

I had never had company before. Except for Ann. That's the main reason I had so much hay everywhere.

I tried to stay calm, and keep Eileen calm.

"I can explain" I said as calm as possible. I didn't want her to think I'm a weirdo. I had never seen someone so pretty like her. Or maybe I just don't really pay attention to other people my age lately.

Suddenly, she did the weirdest thing. She ran out crying. She went right past me so fast I couldn't speak.

Eileen POV:

I didn't believe it. He had a monster! I mean, who has a pet 'whatever that is'? I thought that maybe that thing was like Monster Monster. I kept running so fast that I knew Theo was way behind me. I ran until I reached a really tall and thick tree. I hid behind it and sat down and began to cry. I put my face in between my legs so he wouldn't hear me.

Then I realized something. I didn't know WHY I was crying. But then I remembered and started to cry again. I was crying because we were far away from home. We didn't know the way back. Theo was keeping the large thing a secret from me. It was my fault we had left home. We where lost in this city.

Theo POV:

I heard faint crying. Why, why why was I so dumb?! I should have either told them about Ann or kept her a secret. They might be the only friends I have. Now I had a lot of explaining to do.

She was probably so mad at me right now.
