Marcus' POV//
I gripped the bouquet of rainbow colored roses tightly in my hands as I walked past the blinking streetlight. It was unusually quiet tonight. Not lots of people around. It made me even more nervous.
I kept glancing at my wristwatch to see if I was late. 6:40 pm. Nope.
Tonight I decided to ask Ehra to be my girlfriend, that explains the roses. For the past three years, we have been really close and intimate friends but it hurts to think that were not really a couple and I still cant call her 'mine'. So tonight, Im gonna man up and finally tell her all the words and feelings she has to know.
Ehra. She's just.. Too damn perfect. Her funny laugh that sounds like a dying pigwhale, her hilarious but not-really-funny-jokes, the way she sticks out her tongue every time she wins an argument when we have these silly debates about everything, her hazel brown eyes that you could get lost in if you stare too deep.. Everything about her screams 'perfect' to me.
It took me too long to man up but it's gonna be worth it, I know. She's the kind of girl you take to an old abandoned park but can still enjoy every minute of it. She's beautifully different with all the other girls. I guess, after all these years, I came to fall madly, deeply, and truly inlove with her and there's no coming out of it.
I was lost in my trail of thoughts when something big collided with me. The collision was not that hard to leave my butt flat on the pavement but it made me lose my balance. Luckily, I didnt let the roses fall or hit anything but that was close.
I looked down to see a man who was gathering his belongings shakily. It must be the cold night breeze, I myself am shaking too. "Im sorry." I told him as I bent to help him. I reached for the knapsack and other things that was scattered on the floor, I noticed that the stuff looked familiar plus he has fresh blood on his hands. "Are you okay mister?" I asked nicely. He must have a wound somewhere. Instead of responding nicely, he stormed on me and stood up to grab me by the collar, "You dont know me young man. I dont need your help!" Then he released me and I started to walk away as fast as I could.
Man, your momma told you one too many times before, dont talk to strangers. Especially when they have blood in their hands.
Weird but yeah, I left anyway. I was creeped out, dont blame me. If he has a wound somewhere, maybe his PMS could take care of it. Oh, PMS. Red days. That could explain the blood. Whatever.
Still a bit shaken by the incident, I walked faster to the place I told her to meet me. I sat on our special bench and held my wristwatch up to see that it was ten minutes past seven. Why isnt she here yet? Ehra never got late.
When we first met, she was this momma's school girl who gave all the crap to being early. She never got late. Everything seems to be so weird tonight or maybe just me, because Im nervous as hell.
I remembered the death grip the man gave me on my collar and quickly looked down to see if there was blood on me. Disappointment and fear hit me when I saw some blood stains on my new sky blue button up shirt, especially on my collar. Seriously? How could everything go wrong so quickly? She might think I butchered someone if she sees me.
Minutes ticked by and there was still no sign of her. I got more worried by each minute. A few meters away, a crowd was beginning to form at the side of the lake. I wondered what it was. I care more about her, not about whatever fuss that is.
I pulled out my phone to dial her number but it turns out, she's been calling me thirthy minutes ago. Holysh. 7 missed calls.
I dialled her number as fast as I could. Maybe she wanted to tell me that she couldnt come because her momma didnt allow her, or because she knew I was about to do this.
She wasnt answering any of my calls. I was getting more and more anxious. Damn what's happening! More people gathered over the lake and police sirens came flooding in together with an ambulance.
First there was this creepy man with a knapsack that looked like hers and blood in his hands, then she's a hundred percent late with no clue about where she is and there's something on the waters. Police and ambulance sirens. The quiet of the night turned into chaos.
This sounds tragically wrong. Maybe I should go there and see what's going on.
