Hello Gus
Zac kind-of staggers back in shock. My head jerks up also surprised to hear the news that we will be here for a few days. At the moment, I’m not sure if Zac is angered by this fact or not. He most likely is since he gets angry about most things. I, on the other hand, am quite excited about this.
We have been moving around from city to city so much and I’ve just been trapped in that car like it’s a jail cell and I’ve done something terribly wrong. I want to settle down for a few day and be able to breathe some air that’s not air-conditioning from a dusty old car fan. I want to be able to walk around and use my legs. I want to plunge, head first, into this town and pretend for a couple of days that none of this is going on. I want to pretend that a few days ago a bullet didn’t graze my shoulder.
Well, it seems I was partially right about how Zac would react. He’s very worried. His voice is moving fast like a speeding train whose breaks are broken. He is almost shouting at Gus as if it’s all his fault that we’re going to stay here for a little while.
“What do you mean three days?!” Zac yells.
“I’m sorry, but there’s a part I need and I can’t go out and get it until tomorrow, it’s a four hour drive there and back. Then, I’ll be behind on my other cars, so I can’t fix it until the night after tomorrow,” He says this all very apologetically. I sort-of feel bad for the guy, he seems really nice.
Zac opens up his mouth about to say something, but quickly shuts its. I’m getting a little freaked out as Zac is now pacing around completely panicking. I’ve never seen him like this. He is hysterical. He sits down on the rock one over on my right. There were about four of these large rocks all right in a row, each were about a little past two feet high.
I look over at him to see him with his head in his hands and his leg violently shaking. His leg movements sent a wave of vibrations all the way up him through his arms, which were resting on his knees, to his head which made him look quite weird. He kept rubbing his eyes with his palms. I was getting kin-of scared now, too. He’s acting really weird.
I hop over to the rock beside him. I don’t know what to do, but I can’t just let him sit like this. I place my hand on his back and he instantly stops moving. I gasp as I didn’t see that coming and he startled me.
“It’s okay. We need a break. You’ve been driving for a while now,” I say so quite it’s almost a whisper. I was quite scared of him right now. He’s like a wild animal, completely unpredictable.
“They know where we’re going,” He mumbles into his hands.
“What do you mean?” I question just as quietly as I did before.
He pops up and flings out his arms as he screams, “They know that we’re going to Florida and now they’re going to find us!”
My hand flew up by my head as he popped up. He went back down to putting his head into his hands. I guess I never really thought about the fact that the men who were chasing us actually knew where we’re going. I guess I had just always assumed that we were running and they were chasing, like cat and mouse. Not the cat and mouse are going to the same place and the first one there kills the other one. I now see why he’s so scared, and I am too.
I realize that my hand is still up in the air. I slowly ball my hand in a loose fist and place it nest to my side gently. I turn to face forward to see that Gus is still here. Well, hello, Gus; sorry you had to hear and see Zac look like a total ass in the middle of the sidewalk! He has this dumbfounded look on his face, probably because of Zac and I’s odd conversation. I stand up and walk over to Gus.
