"Oh no." Said Maya, quietly before Topanga opened it.
"Ready, Maya?" Asked the man. Maya slowly sat up straight.
"I forgot."
"You forgot that you were visiting your mom?" She nodded.
"Well, you have an hour with her in the park."
"I don't want to go."
"But Maya, you wont see her until next month."
"I don't have a problem with that."
"You cried last time you left."
"I don't miss her. That had nothing to do with that." She stood up.
"You are expected to go and your mother will want to see you."
"No she wont. She doesn't give a shit about what happens to me anymore, she wasn't even fighting for custody from day one." Cory grabbed her and pulled her into the other room. He placed out the pill.
"You want me to take them too? You were the first person that didn't try and force me."
"Maya, please. It will help."
"I don't want fucking help, especially not from a pill."
"Just take it."
"No!" He grabbed onto her but she kicked his shin and he let go. "I'm not taking it."
"You are." He tried to give it to her, only getting an "I hate you." The adult listened carefully as they sat at the table but could only make out some words. Finally, Maya broke down, sitting in Riley's window, pulling her knees to her chest.
"I don't want medicine to be my only hope." She said, quietly but Cory still heard it.
"It's not, Maya. It's just going to stop this. I know you don't like that this happens to you."
"Nothing happens to me. It happens to you and everyone else. Me doing this affects other people, not me. I'll take the pill if it means I will stop kicking or yelling at people." He looked at the pill before tossing it in the trash can.
"I don't want you to rely on that forever. It's like the chicken pox. Get it when your younger, less likely to do anything bad."
"Shingles."
"Other then that. But point is, you don't need those to get better."
"Thanks, sir. Sorry again. Is your shin okay?"
"Ya, but I think we should sign you up for karate." Maya laughed a little.
"Better go back."
"Ya, nothing to be embarrassed about." Maya took a breath and nodded, following him out. Maya enjoyed the conversation staying away from her the entire time. She listened to every detail of them and said almost nothing but enjoyed it. It was great for her to feel a part of the world again.
