Rain dripped down his face.
She whimpered at the sound of the thunder clapping.
Lightning flashed and all she could was try not to have a break down right then and there.
He looked up at the treehouse that housed the girl that stole his heart but didn't even know it.
He was always there for her when the bullying got to be too much.
She was there to wrap and clean the cuts and bruises on his skin.
Their love existed to everything and everyone but not to themselves.
Another clap of thunder and lightning frightened the girl and that was all the boy needed to climb up.
She saw the boy she has come to love standing at the doorway to the treehouse her brother had built before he committed suicide.
The boy look at her with love in his eyes and cautiously stepped closer to the girl.
They were afraid. Of rejection. Of the ruining of their friendship.
Of finding love then having it ripped away from them.
She stood up and and stepped closer to the boy.
He was breathless but not from running all the way here. But from the way she looked.
Her beautiful gray eyes lit up with a flash when lightning came crashing down.
She jumped and he caught her. He brushed her hair away from her face and leaned in.
"I lov-" he started but was interrupted when her lips found his.
"I love you too." She said as she looked him in the eye.
She didn't jump at the thunder or lightning. She was too wrapped up in her best friend.
"Be mine. " he asked.
She nodded and hugged him tightly. He hugged back and promised to never let go.
~ 8 years later ~
" and that is how I fell in live with your mom." He said to his son. He had his mother's gray eyes and his fathers black hair.
His son smiled sleepily and drifted off to sleep.
The father got up and left the room to find his wife of 7 years leaning against the doorway.
She hugged her husband and smiled up at him.
"I love you.." She said.
He looked at her with adoration in his eyes.
"I love you too. I never thought I could be this happy. Thank you for everything." He said
"Thank you too hun. I'm so happy with our family and I wouldn't change anything."
They shared a kiss and went to their room and drifted off to a peaceful slumber....
