As I sit down on the couch beside him I am thinking of the absolutely worst thing that can come out of his mouth. For instance what if he says she left because he was a drug addict and he changed for me (well I guess technically that would be good but still), or if mom left because she liked my twin more than me, of course, I don't understand why someone wouldn't like me but whatever.
I wait for him to start his history lesson when the bus honks outside of the house.
"Crap!" I yell hurrying to gather all my stuff together so I can get to the bus, "Sorry dad maybe we can have the history lesson later!" I say running out of the door.
He lets a little chuckle and then turns back to being serious, "Ok yeah, well have a good day at school"
"Thanks, dad I know, " I say trying not to feel guilty about me having to go to school. Even though I know I shouldn't feel guilty I do because it was the wrong time to ask him (but I didn't know he would agree to sit down and tell me our entire life story even though I should have expected it).
As I step onto the bus my best friend Makayla waves at me and I go sit in the empty seat beside her.
"He, Makayla!" I say eager to tell her everything that had happened this morning.
"What's up?" She says trying to not seem excited about what I was about to tell her. Although she always has a way of knowing everything through the tone of your voice.
"I showed my dad this," I tell her as I shove my phone in her hands so that she can see the texts.
"Wow," she says after a while, it was weird because she is one of the fastest readers at school. "What did he say?"
I am debating whether or not make up a cool story just for laughs. Hmm. Ok, I am going to make up a story! "So after I showed him he was all like 'yeah totally it was meant to be a surprise but we can do it this way hopefully.' (I was saying all of this in my dad's voice) And then he said 'Your Mom and I bought plane tickets so that you could go down there for a weekend and do whatever' and that's what happened."
"Ok that was funny, " she said still getting her breath back from laughing, she loves my dad voice "What really happened?"
I get my last laughs out then tell her the short story of this morning. By the time I got done it was time to get off the bus and hang out in the courtyard until the bell rings at 8:42.
"Alrighty see you later alligator! Wait no, I mean uh never mind." Now I'm using generic lines what's up with me?
I barely get t the home room before the bell rings. I slide into my seat and read the board I complain under my breath as I realize that I forgot my project on the table when today was the day we were supposed to present our biology project (we got to choose any animal and make diagrams, as well as charts to go with them). I pull out my new phone (iPhone CE) to text my dad when the teacher looks over and calls me to her desk.
"Chloe you know you can't have your phone out in class right?"
"Yes, ma'am I just wanted to see if my dad could bring me my project" thinking that it's just my luck to get caught and get my phone taken away.
"Well, you might as well get your dad to come and get you because it will be counted late either way. Also, it's an early release so this is all we are doing all day and I know it can get kind of boring"
