Chapter 1 ~

The lyrics of Filter: Happy Together fill my ears and I close my eyes, losing myself in the subtle beat. Rolling over, I reach under my bed and pull out a bottle of vodka.
Uncapping it, I laugh to myself. This school was supposed to have top notch security, yet I snuck away every month to restock my alcohol supply. I raise the bottle to my lips, turning the volume of my headphones up.
The night after Jason so carelessly stomped on my heart, and then threw it to some elephants who crushed it even more, I ran home and cried to my mother. Pathetic, I know. I didn't want to face him after that, or anyone else from school, for that matter.
So my parents shipped me here; to St. Muller Boarding School. For the first few months I was happy, but then I realized that this is the most boring place on earth. Literally nothing happens here.
The door to the dorm bangs against the wall and my roommate Connie stalks in. I roll my eyes and shove the bottle of vodka behind my pillow.
"Skylar," she breathes. "You won't believe who the new student is!"
That's right. We were supposed to be getting a new student this week. I'd totally forgotten.
"Who?" I ask, bored.
"Asher Morietti!" She looks at me expectantly, as if I'm going to start jumping for joy.
"And he is?" I question.
Her mouth drops open. "You mean you don't know who Asher Morietti is?"
"I haven't got a clue." Connie huffs and flicks a strand of bubblegum pink hair out of her face.
"Asher Morietti, son of that big time actor Luigi Morietti?"
Oh. I vaguely remember seeing a report in the news about some custody dispute between Luigi and his ex. That was their own personal problem. Paparazzi act like the world cares.
"Now does he ring a bell?" I look up at her.
"Yea." I pause. "But I don't know why Asher is such a big deal."
Connie gapes at me again. "You know what? Never mind. You'll figure it out soon enough."
I frown as my roommate plops herself next to me on my bed.
"Connie! Watch it!" I quickly whip the bottle of alcohol from behind my pillow, aware that it is uncapped.
Connie jumps up and points an accusing finger at me. "What have I told you about drinking?"
I look down, ashamed. "That it's bad for my liver and it could possibly end my life..."
"That's right," Connie tsks, grabbing the bottle from my hand and reaching into her bag.
"Here." She wraps my fingers around a juice box. "This is way better for you."
I glare at the little cartoon apple printed on it. Grumbling to myself I stick the straw in to the little hole. I glance up at Connie who is smiling at me sweetly while pouring the contents of the glass into the sink.
She drops the now empty bottle into the garbage where it lands with a thunk.

The next day, I make my way down the hall. Trudging past classrooms, I glare at anyone who looks at me. What? I'm grumpy in the morning.
When I arrive at my first lesson, I see that a whole bunch of girls are crowded around one desk, their shrieks piercing the air.
"Ohmygosh! I, like can't even believe you're at our school!"
"I love you Asher!"
"You're hotter in real life!"
"Lets exchange timetables! I wanna know if you're in any of my other classes!"
"You're, like the most ahh-mazing person ever!"
"I am totes putting this on Facebook!"
"Can you sign my forehead?!"
So the infamous Asher Morietti was finally here. My Lord, these girls were desperate. Getting so worked up over one guy. I knew how that ended.
I glance through the horde of thirst to get a look at Asher. An involuntary gasp leaves my lips when I see his face, which looks like its been sculpted by Michelangelo himself.
He looks up and I'm met with an icy blue stare. How he managed to pick out that tiny sound amidst all the chaos was a mystery.
All of the girls are now glaring at me, since I hold the attention that none of them seem to have gotten.
Asher grins at me and I quickly recover, flipping him off as I make my way to my seat.
A unified intake of breath echoes around the small room. Apparently I've shocked his groupies.
One girl with a skirt so short it could be considered a belt, and a skintight v necked crop top, wags a finger at me.
"You can't do that to Asher! Don't you know? He's like, a superstar!" I cringe at her extremely nasally voice.
"I thought material that small couldn't be considered as clothing. Don't you know? You look like you work on a street corner." I cross my arms and my feet on top of the table.
She gapes at me. "Are you gonna let her talk to me like that?" She turns to Asher, who pays her no attention, seeing as he's busy staring at me in awe.
I roll my eyes and at the moment the teacher walks in, starting the lesson.

After class, I gather my things and head to the door, thinking about ditching next period. When I exit the doorway, someone grabs my arm and yanks me into an empty hallway.
I furrow my brows and look up. Standing before me is a lanky guy with blonde hair and blue eyes framed with thick spectacles. I sigh, rolling my eyes to the ceiling.
"Yes, Logan?" He's had a crush on me since I arrived at this school and I was constantly trying to let him down easy.
Don't get me wrong, he wasn't ugly or anything, in fact he was actually pretty cute. He just wasn't my type. I didn't want to hurt his feelings.
"I was just wondering if you would like to go out with me sometime." He blushes, fiddling with his fingers.
Oh, I think, why not. it was clearly no use trying to get rid of him, and like I said, I don't want to hurt him; he's a nice guy.
"Sure, Logan. I'll go out with you." I smile.
He looks surprised. "Really? I mean, great! I mean..." I laugh and pat his shoulder.
"What day is good for you?"
"Well.. next Tuesday if that's alright....." He looks at the ground nervously.
"That's fine. You can pick me up around 6."
"6? Okay. See you then."
"It's a date." I say, waving.
Not two minutes later, I'm pulled by my arm again, this time into an empty classroom. What now?
I expect to look up into Logan's eyes again, but instead I'm met with the warm brown eyes of Connie, which happen to be frantic.
What could she possibly want?
