Aria Watson:I slip on my bright green shorts. The rest of the girls have barely gotten undressed. I want to be the first one on the field, this way coach will give me a few minutes to go over our game play. I tighten the laces on my cleats and shake my entire body.
The first game of the season is extremely important. In only a few minutes, I'll be playing on that field. I can feel the energy in the room building. "Come on girls! Hustle, hustle!" I clap my hands together and grab a red bag filled with black and white soccer balls.
I hurry out of the change room and rush out of the school. A gust of wind hits me in the face as the doors open. I run around the school, to the field. The cold wind cleanses my entire body. I am more than ready to play.
I enter the field and rush to the coach. She's standing a few inches away from our bench. I pass her a soccer ball and she gives me an approving smile. "Remember Aria, you're a leader now." She gives me a quick wink and I smile.
After a year of training, I've finally become good enough to make captain of the team. Last year Emily beat me by two votes, but this year I was no doubt the best for the job. All the rookies look up to me and I'm pretty proud to say that I've been on a undefeated team for three years.
"Aria!" A high-pitched voice calls for me. I immediately spin around to see Maya. The bright lights illuminate her blonde hair. I've always been jealous of her beauty.
"Maya!" I squeal and pull her into a tight hug. Maya and I have been best friends since pre-kindergarten. I couldn't imagine being as close with anyone else.
"Good luck, not that you need it!" She nudges my shoulder. I laugh and thank her.
"See you after the game!" She smiles. I smile as well and wave her off. She finds a seat on the bleachers and I sit on the bench.
"Here, the game begins in five minutes." Coach says. She hands me the clipboard.
"Thanks coach." I smile.
"Call me Laura, coach sounds too formal." She laughs.
I nod and go over everyone's position.
It isn't long before everyone is on the field. I feel the adrenaline pumping through me as I pass the ball to one of our forwards. I watch the ball slide through the grass, off to another player. I immediately go after her.
She gives up easily, allowing the ball to roll in front of me. I give a powerful pass to Emily in front of the net. In a matter of second the ball slides past their goalie and into the net. Emily runs to high-five me and I shine a rewarding smile.
The rest of the game goes by smoothly. All of our players are giving one hundred percent. I wouldn't have expected any less.
The whistle goes, declaring that the Ravens have won. Everyone huddles into a massive group. Clashing together with hugs and congratulations.
We line up to high five the other team and race off of the field. Coach gives us a quick congratulations and a pat on the shoulder.
Maya is one of the first people to run off of the bleachers. I run into one of her famous bear hugs. I balance myself before I can tumble over.
I laugh loudly and squirm out of her grip. "How did my best friend become such a winner?" She teases.
"I don't know, I guess I'm just that amazing." I chuckle.
