'Well that was out of hand now was it, Miss Rodriguez' I though to myself as I walked along the sidewalk away from the café, away from Jase.

My heart's still beating fast after that unexpected hug from him. All I wanted to do now was just to get into my car and breathe deeply as possible. I grabbed my keys and went inside.

'In all the places and on all the days of my life, why now? Why would he show up like that unexpectedly? I blame Mary for this. If she wasn't that persuasive maybe we could've gone to somewhere rather than the café that we usually hung out before. But no, she had to pick that one of all the shops in the city.'

My thoughts raced as fast as my heart was pumping. I took a deep breath and held the car's wheel strongly.

I wanted to scream at him, I wanted to walk out that door as soon as I saw him but no, Miss Competitive had to do the opposite, she had to compete with herself into confronting her worst nightmare - seeing Jase again.

I don't know what he's up to but I'm sure this won't be our last meeting with each other. I sighed and started the engine. I headed for Gabbie's school to pick her up.

Right now, she's the center of my life. Yes. I'm a single mother and I have Gabriella Antoinette as my inspiration. She's one of the main reasons why I was so dedicated with my studies before and now with my work as a pediatrician. She's everything to me. She's my life.

The past few minutes with Jase in the café were taken away as I drove off for my baby girl.

"Mommy! Mommy!" I could hear my angel's little voice as she ran to me with her teacher following her.

"Woah, slow down princess." I embraced her and kissed her on her forehead. "So what did we learn today?" I asked Gabbie as I took her in my arms. She showed me a drawing of a family but instead of only the two of us, there was a drawing of a man next to her. A little girl was between this man and woman and I'm guessing that she's the little girl and I was the woman.

"We drew family portraits today, Doc." Her teacher, Teacher Lisa, answered for her.

"I see." I smiled at her. "Thank you Teacher Lisa." I said.

"See you tomorrow, Gabbie." Teacher Lisa said to Gabbie who has dug her head down to my shoulder as if to say that she missed me.

"See you." Gabbie replied and we went on our way. I took her things from her teacher and headed out for the car. I let her sat on the back seat and put her things next to her and we were on our way home.

On the way I was thinking back and forth of all the things that has happened. A typical hobby I had ever since high school. My thoughts circled around the meetings and appointments I had for the coming week; the ones I had finished today with Mary; my smooth duty at the hospital and lastly, Jase's reappearance.

Jase.

'Of all days that I could see him, why now?' I thought to myself and looked at the rearview mirror to my daughter who was looking at the window. She was still holding her drawing.

Gabbie's school wasn't that far from our house but she still fell asleep when we got there. Something she got from me - a sleepy head. To my surprise, my friend Trisha was standing in the balcony as I entered the driveway.

I parked my car and went straight to get Gabbie at the back. I carried her who didn't even woke up when I moved her up to my arms.

Trisha came to me in a surprised body languange. "I'll get that." She said and took my bag as well as Gabbie's and gave the both of us a kiss on the cheek.

"Thanks, Trish. What's up?" I asked her. "Did you know the news?" She said immediately.

We walked together to the front door and Nanay Darla greeted us "Good afternoon ladies." and took the things from Trisha's hands.
