"Do you ever wonder why things have to turn out the way they do?" - Nicholas Sparks

Two months ago...

Clack. Clack. Clack.

Shined, black leather, dress shoes step briskly through the pristine white tiled floor. Long fingers adjust the navy tie tucked in his designer suit. A quick glance at his watch- a meeting in ten minutes. He has all the time in the world.

Jayden Maverick waits by the elevator. One hand is shoved in his pocket and the other supports the sleek brief case carrying documents for this week's final meeting. He fiddles with his keys to his BMW as the number above drops to a lower number.

A figure appears on his right but he ignores the presence. A light ding emits from the elevator and Jayden enters the confided space. He presses the button for his floor and he stands in the corner. Tight places like this aren't his favorite to be in, causing him to pull at his collar.

"Are you okay, sir?" a quiet voice says on his left. Jayden slightly turns his head and sees a fidgety man with large glasses that are outdated.

Jayden eyes him up and down, frowning at every bit of the guy's presentation he disliked. The suit was too small for his skinny figure, the leather case he carries has a noticeable stain on it, his thin hair sticks in certain places like he just got out of bed, and his posture isn't straight. Those were a few of the many things he could point out.

Not to mention his glasses had greasy fingerprints all over it.

Jayden runs one of the most prestigious business in the country. Who's the person who hired a man that looks like he just woke up?

The four-eyes asks once more, "Are y-you okay, sir?" He must be nervous now that he notices the CEO of West Maverick Enterprise is judging him on the spot. Anyone could compare the size-up as an alpha disapproving someone below him, deeming to be a shame to the group he controls.

"Chatter is unnecessary. I am fine," Jayden responds, focusing his attention elsewhere in the small elevator. If the glasses man wants to talk, it better be important.

Gaining confidence, the man nods, "I'm relieved. I'm not to fond of elevators as well. I once brought my kid-"

"You're fired."

"Huh?"

"I will see that the manager of your sections removed you. I better not see your face here again," Jayden says simply. There's no hesitation at the choice he's made; an employee with a easily scared nature cannot make it in his business. He's fired a lot of times in the past. What's there to stop him?

The man takes a step back, hitting his back against the metal side of the elevator. His hands grip his leather briefcase hard enough to turn his knuckles white. He stutters out, "W-what do you mean, sir? I was only talking-"

The CEO sighs, interrupting the guy once more, "And that's the issue. You were talking to me."

The elevator door opens and Jayden steps out, not caring that the man is staring at him like he grew another head. This is how he runs his company- an iron fist- and it's been working so far for the past five years despite his father's complaints.
