"Annakiya is gone too," Carrie said.
Charlotte stared at the others. "You don't think that they..." She couldn't even finish the sentence. There was no way James would do something like this. He was good and pure. He would never do anything like this.
"Of course we don't," Ian said. "But let's just look at this from the outside. We are more than capable of something like this. We have gifts that... technically put us on a higher ground than our human counterparts. Why wouldn't we consider ourselves gods? They left us there for so long, suffering on that damn island. Why wouldn't we want them to repent for what they allowed happen to us?"
"Charlotte, what's happening?" Andrew asked, pulling his wife and son closer to him.
"It's a set up then". Charlotte ignored her father. She couldn't even explain to herself what was happening. There was no way she would be able to explain it to them. "I mean it has to be".
"They are making us out to be terrorists," Carrie grunted.
"Not that hard to do – we are trained to be that and so much more," Ethan said. His eyes were closed and he massaged his temple. "The question is who would want to make it look like we were responsible?"
"Ramsey – Ramsey would want us to look like monsters. That's what he thinks we are," Charlotte said. A part of her cringed at her own words. She still couldn't let go of the idea that he was somehow guilty.
"But would he do something like this? I mean, his name is in the mud with this too," Ian asked.
"Is it? He said from the beginning that this was Fiennes' and Maxwell's rescue. He said that they had done the work so it would be unfair for him to take away their limelight".
"Charlotte, we can't just accuse him, no matter what our feelings towards the man are," Ethan said.
"Well, what do we do then? He must know something and if they have James... he was doing something for them this morning, that's why he wasn't here".
"Annakiya said that last night too," Ian said. "She had to do something with James and... Freya, I think. She was complaining about having to get up early".
"This is not good," Ethan said. "I can't see it clearly. It doesn't make any sense".
"I want to talk to Ramsey," Charlotte whispered, her words dripping with anger. She didn't want to believe that it was him, but he had to know something.
"We don't really have any other options," Ian nodded. "If they find one of us guilty, we are all guilty".
"Caroline, Andrew you need to leave – now," Charlotte said, turning to them for the first time since the news report.
"Charlotte, this is ridiculous. We will just tell them you were with us," Caroline said. She was pale and Charlotte could feel her mother's fear washing over her.
She shook her head. "No, it won't be as simple as that," she said. "I need you to go now. I can't risk you being involved in this".
Charlotte hugged them as they left. Tears sparkled in her mother's eyes and her father's mouth was pressed into a thin worried line. Julian didn't speak.
"We can't waste any time," Ethan said once they had left. "The longer we wait, the more difficult our situation will be". The others nodded and with Ian's help they were hurried down to the foyer, where they found Ramsey standing alone.
"Mr Ramsey, what's going on?" she asked.
"Go back to your room Miss Owens," he said, not meeting her gaze.
