And it Starts

You need to come over. Now. I texted Camila. I had a bizarre feeling on my chest ever since I woke up this morning. I had absolutely no idea what it was so I decided to call the human body expert over.

On my way.

Thank goodness. Camila had always wanted to be a nurse and was taking all the possible science classes at school. If anyone would know what I had, it was Camila.

She arrived at my house five minutes later, still in pyjamas and her hair in a messy bun on top of her head. Oops, I guess I woke her up. I'd have to apologize for that later. I knew she didn't mind though, she never did. That's what best friends are for, right? We're there to help each other out, no matter how early it is in the morning. I don't know what I would do without Camila. We've been best friends since we were two. Our dad's had met at the local golf course and when they realized they had daughters the same age, they immediately put us together and that's how it's been for the past fourteen years. Camila and I did everything together and I wouldn't have it any other way. We were brutally honest with each other because no one else would tell us if we looked fat in a piece of clothing. That's why we had each other.

"What's wrong Vi?" she asked as soon as we were in my room, the door closed, sitting on my bed.

"My chest feels weird, it's been like this since I woke up an hour ago. Actually, come to think of it, it's because of the irritating feeling that I woke up so early." Thank goodness we had a four day weekend and I'd be able to catch up on some sleep the three other days.

Camila just sat on the edge of my bed, hugging a pillow, for a good two minutes deep in thought before she opened her mouth again. "Violet. It's the necklace." she looked at me, a grin slowly appearing on her face and after a dramatic pause "The Soul Searcher has been activated."

"That's not possible." I said. It wasn't. Right?

"Think about the facts. Miss Ocean said the necklace activated itself three days after you saw your soulmate and that when the activation happens, you feel a tingly feeling where the Soul Searcher is in contact with your skin."

"So, tingly feeling, check." I confirmed more to myself than Camila.

"Yes. Now what day are we? Thursday. Okay, so three days ago was Monday, what happened Monday? Did you see anyone you don't usually see at school?" Camila said before returning to her deep thinking.

What happened Monday? It was a normal day at school. I didn't talk to anyone besides Cam and some people in my classes but I see all those people every single day so the Soul Searcher would have been activated already. Wait. After school I went to the arena to watch a hockey game with Camila, my brother Callister, and his girlfriend Hailey. Had I seen a boy there? Had I really seen my soulmate?

I looked at Cam who was already looking at me and at the same time, as if on cue, we both opened our mouths to say "hockey game".

He was probably on the opposing team. That made complete sense now that I thought about it. I knew everyone on the local team, I went to see at least one of their games every week. It had to be someone from the opposing team. The team visiting from Ohio. That wouldn't be a problem unless you live in Grand Rapids, Michigan like me. Just my luck, I don't even live in the same state as my soulmate. This should be interesting.

"How do we know which Ohio player it is?" Camila sighed. "Wait. Is your necklace hot?"

"Yeah, why do y - oh. He's still in town." I said, realizing where she was going with this.

"Yes he is and we are going to find him. Get ready, I'll be back in an hour. Don't be late." And with that my best friend was gone.

Oh lord. I never imagined going to find my soulmate. A lot of girls fantasized about meeting their soulmate and having the perfect love story between classes with their friends. But me? Never even thought of it. Now that I had no choice but to think of it though, I was terrified. What if I did find him today? What am I supposed to say? "Hi, my name is Violet Odell and you don't know me but a magical necklace informed me that you were my soulmate. It's called a Soul Searcher and we're supposed to end up together. So would you like to go out with me?" Yeah, that wouldn't go too well. I wish we learned about that in Love and Fate class. It would be extremely helpful to know what to say to your soulmate when you meet them for the first time and not look like a complete idiot.

Callister got lucky. He met Hailey in his college class and they started out friends and then started dating because they both liked each other. It wasn't until a couple days ago that Callister told Hailey about the Soul Searcher and she totally believed him because they had already been dating for a month and friends for maybe a month before that. Callister was definitely the one with all the luck in this family.

I decided to wear something casual but still cute; dark coloured jeans with a white t-shirt along with a scarf around my neck and my favourite pair of shoes, my white converse. Seeing as it'll be the first time I see this guy, that is if I see him, I need to make a good impression. I put a bit of cover up on a zit that decided to show up the other day, applied some mascara and I was finally ready. Just in time at that because just then Camila came barging into my room.

"Perfect, you're ready. Let's go!" She said taking my arm and dragging me towards the door. Gosh, this girl is strong.

"Wait, before we go. What do I say if we see him?"

"Just act like you're meeting and seeing him for the first time because that's what you're doing. Whatever you do though, do not mention the necklace and don't be super flirty. You don't want to freak him out."

"Okay, sounds. Now let's go." I giggled, grabbing Camila's hand and walking out the door.
