To say that Lucy was surprised by her mates words would have been an understatement, she looked astonished. "Since when do you have a sister?" It was arguably one of the dumber questions she could have asked considering the circumstances, but it had probably been the first one which came to mind.
For a moment, or it could well have been a second, in the confusion and fear of everything which had happened. Samson had almost completely lost track of all sense of direction or time, he could barely concentrate on the woman in front of him. A feeling of confusion slowly settling down on his shoulders to the point where he felt sure that soon it would choke him.
"I have two," Samson replied careful not to make eye contact with the smaller she wolf. "And three brothers." He added at last minute, wincing as her expression slowly got madder and madder as the time past. Considering he had been lying all these years, he saw no point in not coming out with the whole truth now the cat was out of the bag.
When Lucy remained silent for a moment longer, whether it had been because she was too angry to know how to reply, or too surprised that her words had been taken from her. "I have five siblings, only one of them ever bought to marry." His tone becoming nothing more than a mumble, as he seemed to remember something which had happened so very long ago that the memory had been lost until this point in time. His expression told the story enough that it something that he had been more than happy to forget.
Clearly it had been something which he had thought he would never have to bring up again. Or at least that had been what he had hoped.
"At least since the last time I met them, they believed it to be beneath them. 'They had too many important things to worry about then finding a mate.'" He paraphrased, remembering what they had said to him all those years ago. It now felt like that was a different lifetime.
"But..." Lucy's words seemed to return to her too quickly, as she struggled to find what to say in response, her face flushed. "You never told me, why did you never tell me?" She whispered, her tone hoarse and pained at having been lied to for a long time.
A silence fell between them, sound-tracked only by the distant sound of birdsong. A distant reminder of the peace which had enveloped them in the forest only moments ago. It now seemed to be a great distance away from them. As Samson watched all the faith that his mate had accumulated for him over the years dissipate in the space of a few moments.
Samson was about to reply, but looking around, people were beginning to come from their homes and into the open. He didn't know if anyone would eavesdrop, but he didn't like to think that there could be that possibility. He rested a hand on his mates shoulder and tugged at her shirt as he turned back towards the house. "Let's talk about this inside."
Lucy seemed to want to disagree for a moment, and then thankfully seemed to decide against it at the last minute and she nodded with a sigh. Samson went to follow her, wrapping an arm around her waist in an attempt to calm her down as she was clearly frustrated with him. She turned and glared at him when he tried, and sped up.
Hurt by her reaction, Samson slowed his own pace so she entered the room alone, and then he followed on in silence. Before he entered, he looked behind him one final time to make sure that no one was watching. Thankful beyond belief to find that no one was, then he too entered the house and found his mate in the sitting room. Sat crossed legged on a sofa, her arms folded and her expression like steel.
Only once did Samson make the mistake of making eye contact with the obviously angered Lucy, her glare was enough to send the devil himself running like a panicked deer. Quickly, Samson withdrew his gaze. Choosing for the time being to only look at her from the corner of his eye, even with his attention mostly distracted, she looked angry with him. Not once did her expression soften or change, and it pained him to see her so angry. Especially considering that it was mostly his fault that she was acting this way.
