Not a father by blood but by heart

Shit. That's the only thing that my mind can think to say at this moment. I forgot about him.

Hi chief. How are you today? No I can't say that. The mission was a success chief. Maybe I can say that. Yea, I can say that.

"Hello chief, the missi-"

"You punched Kate." The chief announced, cutting me off.

"Yes, but see she kinda deserved it." I can't believe I just said that.

"Did she really?" challenged the chief.

Shit shit shit. What do I say? what do I say? I know what to say.

"Yes your bitch of a daughter deserved to have her fake ass nose broken." I did I really just say that? I look in the chief's eyes and something tells me I did. I sigh and then say, "I'm sorry chief for being so blunt, but you can ask anyone, someone needed to put her in her place, and I guess that someone just happened to be me."

The menacing look in the chief's eyes softens as he gives me a fatherly look. "Well I guess you're right then Rain." He chuckles and places his hand on my shoulder. "Kate isn't the nicest or most likable of people, and if she made you of all people lose their temper, then she most likely deserved what she got."

I'm taken aback by this. I never thought the chief would agree with me on this. I mean sure he's like a dad to me and treats me like one of his own, but never did I ever imagine he would choose me over his own flesh and blood.

Apparently, neither did Kate.

"I can't believe you're buying a word this little lying bitch says!" cried out Kate. "She punched me because that devil can't take criticism." I was about to defend myself but there was no need.

"Rain can't take a lot of things, but criticism is one thing that she can handle in monumental servings. That woman has been to hell and back more times then anyone could ever imagine. Almost every day, venom has been spat at her, and she will stand there and take it. So come up with a better reason making you look like the victim here." Shot out the chief. "And I'll be damned if any daughter of mine will be as big of a bitch as you are now." Those words silenced the room and everyone turned and looked in our direction. Damn. I wonder if he knows half the shit his little girl pulls.

"Do you hear yourself right now father? I mean really, you must be off your rocker to say that to your own daughter." Kate screamed.

"I hear myself loud and clear, and I am not crazy, I am merely stating fact. You know this is your mother's fault, if I had raised you, you would be an acceptable human being," the chief replied.

Kate stood there not knowing what to say or do. You could tell she was hurt but not by anyone but herself. I looked between her and the chief not knowing what to do and hoped for an order. After some time of silence my wish was granted. "Well what are you all standing around for? Get back to work!" ordered the chief. I tried to blend in with the crowd, and on most days I can do that, but today I wasn't so lucky.

"Agent Rain please report to the mission room," said a woman's voice over the intercom. I sighed and made my way to the mission room.
