"Uhh..."

I looked at Violet weird. "Never mind..."

Violet takes a bite of a strawberry while smiling. "Heh. I just ,uh, bought them last night."

"Okay, whatever you say." I remember looking in the fridge and seeing no strawberries this morning.

"Let's just get going."

"Right, wouldn't wanna be late." A voice says behind us.

"Harry?" I hear Violet say nervously.

I turn around too see Harry walking with a girl. I have no words—I just stare.

"Hey." Harry says.

"Who is tha-"

"I'm his step-sister, Melanie."

I hear Violet sigh in relief. "Nice to meet you, Melanie." Melanie nodds.

"She just got back from..."

"From a trip to...Greece." She finishes Harrys sentence.

"Cool." Violet says. "I've always wanted to go to Greece." I can hear the anticipation in her voice.

"I think we'll be great friends." She says, while messing with her blonde hair that matches her brown eyes perfectly.

"Yeah, now let's get to school."

"Yeah." Violet says.

When I get to third hour, I see Zach standing there with a couple friends. They look intimidating. I can feel lust radiating off of one of them when I walk past, but I'm not sure who.

"Hey, Kate." Zach winks at me.

I scoff at him. "Leave me alone, Zach. I'm not in the mood for your flirting." As if I ever was.

"So this is the girl?" I hear one of the guys whisper to Zach.

"Yep." Zach smirks.

"Hey there hot stuff." Another one says.

"Excuse me? What did you just call her?" Violet walks up behind us angrily.

"And I'm guessing your her little gaurd or something?" They all laugh.

"No, I am not! Now why don't you get your faces out of here."

"Whatever." Zach says. I can feel the air getting colder as he seems to get angerier. I also notice the lights get dimmer.

Fear starts to grow inside me. I feel like I'm trapped with only Zach. I didn't even notice that Violet was starting to grow angry too as his eyes also had anger. One of Zach's friends grabbed my arm and squeezed it. I had no idea what he was doing, but it hurt. When he didn't let go for a few seconds the other one slapped me and attempted to kiss me—but I resisted it.

Violet started looking like she was gonna start a fight or something. It was getting darker and darker and I could see vines growing around Zach as Violet starting looking intimidating as well. I didn't know how to feel about all this.

I backed up a little bit. I felt like I was going to fall through the floor. It seemed to be rumbling below me. I backed into someone: Zach.

"What!? How did you-"

"Get to class everyone!" I heard a teacher yell down the hallway.

I felt like I wanted to puke because of the sudden temperature change as Zach somehow managed to disappear into the wall–or atleast I thought so. I just wanted to curl up in my bed and cry for a while and pretend like this was a dream.

"What were you doing!? You shouldn't talk to them." Violet looks at me with concern and a little anger–as she pulls me away from where I was standing and closer to her.

"I know I shouldn't talk to them. I didn't realize how rude Zach can actually be."

"Look, I know...he's new here. But his friends are not and they know what's up. They know exactly how to mess with you. Don't you remember last year?"

"Yeah." I remember being pushed into the lockers and and locked in there for hours. "I just thought they would've changed."

"They never change."

"I know, I just wanted to believe no one would bother me again." More terrible memories come back into my mind.

"Stop. Nothing will happen to you ever again. I've got your back–what do you think friends are for?" Violet hugs me.

"Okay." I hug her back. I almost feel like crying, but I hold back my tears.

"I won't accept the fact that my best friend is being hurt."

"I know..."

"Now let's get to class." I notice the hallways clearing out.

~~~~~~~~~~~
When I get to class, the teacher glares at me while everyone else stares at me.
"Don't be late next time." He says, sternly. I can already tell that I don't like this teacher.
 "Okay." I walk to the only open seat, which happens to be next to Melanie.
The teacher starts the lesson. "Blah blah blah." Is all I hear.
"Hey, Melanie." I whisper to her.
"You can call me Mel."
"Well, Mel...ugh I'm just bored."
Concern grows in her eyes, as she notices that I look so let down.
"Are you okay? I can tell you're sad—you look like you've been crying."
"No, I'm fine." I try and put on a fake smile to convince her.
"You're not going to fool me."
I sigh. "Uh, well I've just had a rough day."
"We can talk about this is you want, after class?"
"No, I'm fine-"
"Mel! Kate! Get back to work!"
"Yes sir, we won't do it again."
While we write down stuff and what not, I notice how quick Mel is figuring out all the practice questions so fast—when I can barely figure out what 12 x12 is–I know, 5th grade math. How embarrassing. Even though that's not Algebra...still it confuses me.
After class I decided I was going to go home. But just so I didn't get in trouble with Violets parents, I went to the nurse because I seriously felt like I was going to puke.
When they took my temperature, it said 98, but when she said 'no its fine' I said this: "Can you please let me go home. I need sleep." She immediately said yes.
You think that they would make me stay at school, with all the strict rules here. I guess I just somehow convinced her to let me go home.
