Let us begin with the Dragon's Star, the brightest star in the night sky. It's light touches five different realms, that I know of. I strongly suspect that there are more worlds, that may know the star's light. But I can say with certainty, that it shines on five living worlds.
When I say living worlds. I am referring to worlds where intelligent creatures dwell comfortably. This means that there is air for creatures to breath, without magical assistance. There is naturally occurring water and earth, along with plants and a variety of different creatures. And of course, there is warmth enough, that magic is not needed to artificially support life.
The Dragon's Star shines upon these worlds at varying times and degrees of brightness. In at least one of the realms, it's light rivals the light of a full moon. In others, it is much fainter, yet still distinguishable from other stars. I cannot say with certainty what the specific time frames for it's appearance and the duration of it's time in the sky are, simply because it is of a scale beyond my own level of existence. But there seems to be a pattern, that has been recognized by the intelligent inhabitants of the different worlds. Each has a set of stories and myths to foretell of the arrival and departure of the star. From what I have observed, most are accurate to within a century or two.
I know that a century or two, seems like a large variance in accuracy. But I have come to understand that on the scale of the time of the universe, that is but a blink of an eye. In that perspective, it is quite remarkable that mortal creatures have achieved such a high degree of accuracy across multiple worlds, with little to no communication between them.
What is also consistent, is the belief that the arrival of The Dragon's Star will bring change, almost always for the good of the world that observes it. Likewise, it's exit from the sky, warns of darker times to come. From my research, it seems that these predictions are accurate too.
I have not quite decided whether it is a matter of belief, creating a set reality for those who believe it, or if it is, in fact the effect of the light of The Dragon's Star upon these worlds that creates this. Whichever you choose to believe, does not change the fact, that on each realm, an age of enlightenment arises with The Dragon's Star and a following dark age, with it's retreat.
There are also many creation myths attached to the star. Every race on all five realms, has some form of creation myth, usually depicting the star as the original source of life and magic. This is where I find myself a bit baffled. While all connect their existence to The Dragon's Star, they all call it, The Dragon's Star. I have to wonder, why it is, that elves don't call it The Elven Star or the dwarves call it The Dwarven Star. I theorize that perhaps, the dragons were the first beings to observe the star and perhaps they shared their creation stories with primitive mortals.
It is either that the dragons were first to view the star, or perhaps the first intelligent beings in the realms. Or the dragons are actually a part of that creation story, an integral part of life coming to the worlds. I think it would be best to explore this further, at another time.
Needless to say, The Dragon's Star is an integral part of life, religion and mythology across all five realms.
