"Hello?" A voice said from behind me. I spun around, seeing the new girl's face. She stood there, waving at me, a smile on her face. "Oh hi...um, what's your name again?" I asked, feeling bad because I hadn't remembered.
"Valory." She responded. I could tell she was looking me over, calculating me. Might as well be nice. I smiled at her, taking my earbuds out and stopping the song, putting my phone and the earbuds away. I smiled at her. "Hi Valory." I say, standing up and putting my backpack on my shoulders. I looked at her, feeling awkward. "Um...so, why did you come to this school?" I asked her curiously.
"My dad got a job up here, so we moved." She said. "What kind of job?" I asked her. "Oh he's a music producer, so he got a promotion and he headed up here to get it." She said, a little remorsefully. I could tell she hadn't wanted to move. "So, what kind of music do YOU listen to?" I asked her. "Oh, probably people you've never heard of..." She said, looking down and twiddling her fingers nervously. "Well then introduce me." I say, smiling at her. She sat down next to me on the bench. "Well...I like Melanie Martinez and The Neighbourhood." She said, smiling. I smiled incredulously. "Me too!" I said, excited. She looked up. "R-really?" She asked, grinning too. "Yeah." I said. It was after school. "Hey wanna come over to my house tomorrow?" I asked her. "I'll ask my parents." She said, grinning happily. I don't know why I was so excited, but nobody here ever really related to me. Finding a friend was a new thing for me.
She looked at me and said one word that would change both of our lives.
"Yes."
