Execute The Plan
Mr. Smith still looks skeptical but he is slowly nodding his head, agreeing with you. With a sigh, he says, "Ok, kids. I don't like it. But I'm not sure what else to suggest. We need to move quickly."
You can't leave here on foot, and you did leave the keys in the ignition. You need to get back to the suv.
You lead them back the way you came earlier. It's harder to stay hidden with so many of you, and it takes precious time that you don't really have. At any second, one of the strangers could notice that their captives are no longer trussed up in the backyard.
Finally, you have crept as close to the vehicle as you can. You all are still 60 feet away, but that's as far as you can sneak as a group. You won't all fit behind that one tree, after all.
At his signal, Mr. Smith leads the charge as you bolt for the car. Yanking open the back door, you hesitate while Sam shoves his sister across the seat. He dives in after her, and the engine comes to life as you scramble inside. Mrs. Smith has barely made it inside the vehicle when, with gravel flying from the churning tires, Mr. Smith floors it in reverse.
You skid wildly onto the narrow back road and fly away from the cabin. As far as you could tell, the people inside didn't have a chance to react to your escape. After a few miles, Mr. Smith slows to a more reasonable pace. Somehow, you've all managed to escape with no major injuries.
As you drive away, you all talk in depth about this plan of yours. It's crazy. You know that. But, it may also work. And it's probably your only realistically possible way to take the cabin back.
Mr. Smith drives back toward civilization. You aren't likely to find the key component to the plan way out here. After a while, Mrs. Smith takes over driving and Mr. Smith settles in to sleep for a few hours.
You are getting really hungry, but the theives stole all of your bags, and all of the food, so you end up sitting and listening to your own stomach growl as the miles pass.
When the car suddenly slows, you look ahead and see a zombie. It's shuffling along the road relatively steadily, all limbs still intact, and in the beginning stages of decomposition.
It's perfect.
Sam's dad has woken up and immediately sees the potential. "You guys sure you want to do this?" He asks one last time.
You nod.
Do you really want to get anywhere near that creature? No. But, you need to.
"Ok then. We all know what to do."
Sam grabs the zip ties that he pulled out of the suvs emergency repair kit earlier. You and Mr. Smith grab your door handles, ready to jump from the car, and Mrs. Smith opens her car door just far enough to wave a hand out it.
Seeing the waving hand, the zombie staggers towards the driver's side door. Just before it reaches her, Sam's mom pulls her hand back in and slams her door. Frustrated at narrowly missing its snack, the zombie bangs against her window, growling.
While the creature is still occupied, Mr. Smith springs from the car and runs toward the zombie. He reaches it before it can react, and seizes it from behind, wrestling its thrashing arms behind it. As soon as he grabs the zombie, you and Sam jump out and run to help. You grab the zombies hands, forcing them together, and Sam deftly fastens a zip tie around its wrists.
Mr. Smith is struggling to control the creature, which is violently thrashing, growling and snapping its dirty teeth at you all. You and Sam work together to zip it's kicking legs together. And you finally manage to subdue the zombie. It lays in a writhing heap in the ground, unable to do much more than snarl and roll around.
Bracing his hands on his knees, Mr. Smith pants, "I can't believe that actually worked."
Next, you need to move the zombie into the back of the suv. Before, in the heat of the moment, you didn't notice the slightly off texture of the creatures skin. But now, as you all carefully move it into the vehicle, the texture and smell of the zombie makes you want to gag. It's gross, really gross.
With the beast finally stowed in the back, you all tiredly climb back into the suv and start the long drive back to the cabin. At least you didn't have to go all of the way back to a town to find a zombie.
The sun is high overhead when you come within walking distance of the cabin. The plan is to leave the suv and walk, hopefully not drawing attention to yourselves.
The walk back to the cabin is long and nerve wracking. You keep expecting the gun weilding man to jump out at you. And dragging the zombie along with you feels like inviting disaster. You are relieved when, a couple of hundred yards away from the cabin, you can tether the zombie to a tree, leaving it behind for later.
The rest of you move close enough to the cabin to spy on the trespassers. You watch them all day as they move around the cabin and yard. They have obviously figured out that you all escaped by now, but don't seem worried about it. They probably figure that you all have run as far and as fast as you could go. The jokes about to be on them...
Long after the sun has set, the cabin quiets down. You wait, but as the hours pass, it becomes clear that they are all asleep.
Mr. Smith and Sam leave to retrieve the zombie. When they return, they manuver it to the back door of the cabin. The door is locked, but Sam has his key, and you are able to silently open the door.
Cutting the ties at its feet, you all prepare for the next step. The zombie is trying to turn towards you, and you work together to shove it hard into the cabin, freeing its hands as it falls. Quickly pulling the door shut, you relock it and back away into the shadows. Now, you wait.
It doesn't take long before you hear shouting inside the cabin. A couple of gun shots ring out, but then there are no more. The shouting from inside continues, letting you know that the zombie bomb is still wreaking havoc.
Mrs. Smith appears next to you, and she and her husband creep toward the back door. They both clutch knives that flash in the moonlight as they let themselves in.
Despite your protests, they had insisted that you and Sam stay outside to keep an eye out for the smallest member of your group. The two of you sneak back to where you know she is hiding, and wait.
Depending on which group exits that door first, your plan either worked, or got Sam's parents killed.
