katalina. I hear a girl yell. katalina.the girl whispers. She looks up at me. We are alone forever. Katalina is gone so is mom and Alec they left. Why does everyone leave.

Dammit Katarina,Wake up. You were screaming again. Lana says. Sorry L. I say as I wake up. I hate that dream. Its ok at least its a work day today you are our alarm. Let's go get water. She says. Ok lemme get dressed. I reply even though they have been gone for four years I still have that damn dream. Katarina,Katarina. Hey Katarina earth to Katarina. Lana says. What Lana. I say. You zoned out. she says. I'm sorry its just that dream it always brings with it memories, of before the storm. I say to her. After I say that, we are at the river. I start to fill my buckets up. Just then two people,I don't recognize,walk out of the woods. Can you help us, I'm katalina and this is my cousin Kadence. The second girl comes out of the woods. My breath catches in my throat. She looks like my cousin. Where you from. I ask. A lot of places. She answers. Katalina is blond and has blue eyes she's tan. Kadence is brunette and has green eyes she's tan as well. Very well, follow us back to the village. And I'm Katarina. When we get to the village. Matt asks who are they. Tonight after chores I'll introduce them.

It's dinner and everyone is gathered in the dining hall. Listen up we have two new people they are going to stay with us for a while. I call out. I nod to them. Hi I'm katalina. Katalina says. Kadence rolls her eyes. I'm Kadence. She says. Lets eat. I yell. They all laugh, and begin to eat. Follow me and get something to eat. I tell them. As we're walking to the serving area, I speak up. We're lucky today we get rabbit stew. They both nod. So who are you looking for. I ask. They look up at me and katalina says who says we're looking for anyone. Well are you? I ask. Yes we are. Kadence says earning a glare from katalina. Who are you looking for. I ask. are they looking for that lonely girl who got left behind. Even if they are I wont go back. My younger brother. Katalina says. What happened to Alec. I ask I just said his name. I set my plate down and walk towards the door. I hear katalina and Kadence calling out to me. I wasn't always Katarina at one point I was Kacy. I always hated that name it was so plain and simple and boring. So when the storms hit I told anyone I came across my name was Katarina. We now have no electricity in America. Hell we probably don't have electricity in the world. Alot of people died because of that. They were to lazy to survive, I however was not I fought for my life. After my mom died I died inside. I was so sad and finally I understood that I was dishonoring her by not fighting and I have fought ever since. I feel a tap on my shoulder, I turn to see Lana. I think katalina is my sister. I say out of the blue. You've never spoken much of the past. She says. I was 13 when the storms hit. My name was Kacy. I hated my biological father. I had always been second choice. By sister was beautiful she had a boyfriend. And then the storms hit. I hadn't been At the house at that time I was on hike about a mile away from home when I heard the storm I got in a stream bed that had a slight over hang that's the only reason I survived the storm. I tell her. We thought you were dead. Katalina says from behind us. What happened to gage. I ask. He had to stay at our village. You got taller and thinner. She says. Can I see your birthmark.

I have a birth mark on my back in a shape of a heart. I turn my back to her. The shirt I'm wearing shows most of my back. It is you. She says. Where is Kadence. I ask. I don't know what happened to Alec. What happened to Alec. I say. She's inside, Brian has him. She tells me. How in hell did that happen. I yell. Who's Brian. Lana asks. Our biological father. We say at the same time. I'm helping you find Alec. I say with tears in my eyes. Lets go in and eat Lana says. Your village is quite small. Katalina says. Kinda we have about one hundred fifty people living here. Lana tells her. How many people are in your village. I ask. around five hundred. She says. Damn. lana says laughing. I smile and roll my eyes. Matt comes up and says what the hell happened. What should I say to him,he's like my best friend. I'll just tell him that I found my sister ,and I'm going to find my brother.

Katalina is my sister and Kadence is my cousin. My father took my brother and I'm going to find him and I'm leaving you and Lana in charge. I tell him. Are you joking. He asks. I wish I was. I tell him. Kadence. I yell. Yeah. She says. Come here. I tell her. What's up? She asks. I'm about to speak but katalina does so first. She's Kacy and she's coming with us to get Alec. She says. Is it true? she says with tears in her eyes. Yeah, it is. I say smiling. I thought you were dead. she yells. I was. I say. What do you mean by that. They ask. After the storm abated I walked home I found an empty house moms car was gone. They left me. I can't even feel mad about it any more. I grabbed some clothes some food and a few knives. Mom had recently taken my lighter. So I walked through the cemetery to Nichols and grabbed some stuff that I needed. Then I headed to the highway and started walking. And I finally found my way here half dead. I had given up I just sat down. I hadn't eaten in a while, I was light headed and weak. And I think I fell asleep because I saw mom she was telling me to fight to survive, and then I woke up I started a small fire and set some mouse traps hoping to catch something to eat. I found a blackberry bush near my fire. That night I ate some blackberries and fell asleep and when I woke up I was in a cabin with the old leader watching over me. She nursed me back to health. And I survived. I tell them.
