Recording 1

You are tired, injured, and hungry. It feels like months since you've last eaten. You trudge along some stalled cars on the highway hoping to find something edible. One thing you are on the lookout for are the muts, ugly man-eating creatures.

After walking a long distance in the hot sun you decide to sit in the shade of a nearby tree. You smell of sweat, dirt, and blood. Now really thirsty, you close your eyes for what you think is the last time.

Unfortunately, you are not taken out of your misery but fully awake and alert. You see something glistening by one of the car's wheels. You slowly stumble over to it and see that it is a small bag with a piece of reflective tape on it.

The bag looks almost new and well preserved. You open it to find a water bottle, a granola bar, and a recorder. You savagely rip open the granola bar and munch on it while downing the now warm water. Then, you pick up the recorder. You click a white button and it whirrs to life.

Ahem. Is this thing working? I'm just going to go with yes. Uh..where do I start? Well, if this thing is even recording, hi. How are you? Probably lost or scared. Well, so am I but I can help you. Let me explain.

When you think of the end of the world, how do you imagine it? A zombie apocalypse, an asteroid coming straight at the world, maybe a huge earthquake? Yea, so did I until the time actually came.

No one can just guess the end right away. It's kind of a touchy subject. Let me break it down to you. People evolved; that's it. That's all of it. People started to evolve gradually then all at once.

Now you might ask me, Lenard, what do you mean? Or, Lenard, how did that happen? Or even, is that really your name, Lenard? I will answer all of those.

First off, no, my name is not Lenard, it's Adrien, Adrien Gonzales. Secondly, the evolving of humans started as an innocent cosmetic surgery. I am talking about 2024 and on. Not the kind of evolving you see from monkey to man. No! This was the opposite.

People felt the need to feel pretty in their skin. They came up with a new type of surgery that made your body react to certain foods and medicines to loose weight and alter your face painlessly. There was only one slight problem; what else would this crap react to.

Who knew it would react to greenhouse gases floating invisibly in the air. In fact, the first person to get it was some supermodel who was unrecognizable after just a few hours. Her face was contorted, her teeth sharpened and her body was bent so that she looked like something out of the exorcist.

She was nasty. Her accident was covered up saying that it was all an allergic reaction. Of course, some people actually bought that and also had surgeries. Soon, a sort of epidemic broke out of mutants spotting the state of California, then it spread to the country, then the world. Soon, most of the population was an ugly mutant.

Later, those mutants became violent and hungry for meat. What better supply than fellow humans! The thing was kind of like a zombie apocalypse except it was no disease that caused this but a simple cosmetic surgery.

Science created monsters who quickly replaced the general human population with mutants. They were basically reproducing like bunnies.( If ya know what I mean)

Now, one last question you may have for me is, Lenar- I mean Adrien, if they ate humans and reproduced themselves, shouldn't the world be infested and at a loss of humanity? The answer is yes and no.

If you are reading this, someone obviously lived long enough to tell the story if these monsters. It also means that there is hope. My group has been trying fo find survivors to help bring back civilization. If you receive this, join us. You don't have to live in fear or famine anymore. I will tell you more along the way just hear me out.
