"When you leaving for Hamilton, Ian?"

"In two weeks." He covered the paint bottle.

"What are you going for again?"

"A project. Mr Smith wants me to teach at his seminar. The pay is really good."

"Yeah, you've said that a million times already."

"But you never heard me that's why you keep asking."

"That's not true."

"You sure about that?" He cupped his lips, showing a smile of doubt and mockery."

"Okay! I'm sorry for asking over and over again, but I don't want you to go. Is it that difficult for you to get?"

"Tessie darling, it's for our good. That's what matters." He opened another paint bottle. "With this pay, I'll have enough to take you through Basic School. That's more important than you missing me, you know?"

"I do, but..."

"Shush. I get you dear, but it's only for two weeks and I promise I'll be back, no extra days."

"You sure nothing at all will hold you back this time? Not even a lady?"

"Little sister, I just made a promise, two weeks." He winked at her, she giggled. "Now would you come over here and tell me if this work is done." She strode over to the canvas. On the easel was the drawing of a field, green grass. The blue sky, a few flowers and a bird flying in the sky. Beside the field was a stream, pure water flowing through it, while in the middle of the field was a fountain.

"Its beautiful." she smiled.

He examined it. It wasn't complete yet, but he couldn't point out what was missing. "Thanks honey. And don't you worry Tessie. For now, you my little sister are the queen of my heart and I'm not letting anyone in without informing you first." He tickled her, she laughed.

"How come you didn't inform me that it's your birthday today?"

"Cause I didn't plan to remember it."

"You know what Susan? You never seize to amaze me. Why on earth would you want to forget your birthday?"

Susan looked away.

"Susan!" Yesenia almost yelled.

"I don't wanna talk about it."

"Why?"

"It brings back too many memories Yesenia."

"I'm sorry Susy, but whatever it is, you must someday let it go. And you should learn to open up, at least to your friends. I'll let you be today, cause I want your day to go well, but someday, you'll have to let me know everything. Every single thing."

Susan blinked.

"That aside, now back to Bradley. He doesn't give his staff birthday presents, although he could be generous a times. He's given some official gifts to different people on different occasions."

"Then what makes this different?"

"He gives official gifts to people who have done something worthy of praise, not just by picking your CV and searching for your date of birth."

Charlotte squeezed her mouth. "What about Kim?"

"That one...okay, he gives her birthday gifts but as far as I know, she'd nagged him before she got anyone of them. Which still makes your case different."

"Oh boy!"

"What?" Yesenia chuckled. "It's not a bad thing. It just means your boss is falling for your charm."
