Dream State- M180

I walk down the street, the misty air surrounding me. I smile as a little greets me from the other side of the street.

"Hey, Bristol!"

I smile and wave back. I am very appreciated in this town due to the fact that I volunteer every weekend and work at the daycare when they are short-staffed. I may not know everybody but everybody knows me.

I continue to walk down the street, heading to the daycare. I smile at a woman walking her dog and a few children playing jump rope in the school yard. I finally show up at the front door of the day care. I step inside the air conditioned room to silence.

Something's wrong, it's never quiet.

I walk into the first room I see to find a room of children sitting, facing a TV monitor. The movie Finding Nemo was playing. They all simultaneously turn and look at me. I saw the fear in their eyes. That's when I realized there were no adults around.

"Where is Mr. Lucas?" I ask

They all sit and just stare. Then the smallest of the group stands up, walks towards me, and grabs my hand, guiding me to the next door over. The door slips open silently, to show the dark napping room. I smile and send the child back to the previous room. Then I face Lucas.

"What the hell is going on?" I ask

"It's Dhalia..." He whispers

"What about Dhalia, dang it? Talk to me, Lucas!" I yell, starting to freak out.

Lucas guides me into the office, where Dhalia is sitting in a chair. When she hears us enter her neck turns with enough force to break her fragile bones.

"We need to go! Now!" She exclaims

"Dhalia, where do we need to go?" I ask

"You don't understand, theres not enough time. We are just subjects in the governments game! Play things! You don't get it! I am a subject, #R029! So are you!" Dhalia says

"Dhalia, stop it! You've gone crazy!" Lucas yells, he looks like he has seen a ghost, considering his girlfriend and Co-worker has just gone crazy.

"I'm not crazy! Why doesn't anybody believe me!?" She yells again

"Dhalia! Shut Up! Stop it!" I yell, in attempt to snap her out of it

She breaks down in tears and throws the table in front of her at Lucas. He quickly dodges it, staring in surprise at Dhalia's sudden strength.

She falls to the floor in a heap, crying. I pull Lucas out of the office.

"Call it in?" I ask, plucking the phone off the reciever.

"No! We can't!" Lucas says

"Why not! Its the freaking law!" I say

"I can't believe you!" He yells, turning his back and heading back into the office

When we get back to the office, it is a massacre. Dhalia lies in a bloody mess on the floor, unmoving, not even breathing.

"Oh my god!" I yell, the phone slipping from my hands

I quickly pick it up and dial three numbers. Then the line kicks in.

"We are sorry for the wait, but this line is busy. Please try again later." The reciever Lady says, the words cut me like a knife.

How in the world is 911 busy!

I dial 3 times before I get something.

"Hello, this 911. What is your emergency?"

"I would like to report a murd- acci- death! I would like to report a death at the Budding Blossoms Daycare!" I say, hoping Dhalia isn't actually dead

Fifteen minutes later, Dhalia was being air lifted to the hospital where from there she would recieve an Autopsy.

"I'm so sorry Ms. Carbrighter, but Ms. Little was DOA." An officer tells me.

"Dang it. Why Dhalia!" I exclaim, it was as if someone had punched me through the chest.

I fell to my knees and started crying. How did this happen? We had been standing right outside the door and had only been out for a few minutes.

I walk home once all of the kids had been sent home. I unlocked my front door and stepped inside. I walked to the bathroom and stood in front of my mirror.

Dark Hair

Big Green eyes

Freckles

Bullet hole

I blink again and realize I was seeing things. It had been an eventful day. It may only have been 7:46pm but I was ready to sleep. I quickly walk down the hall to my room and slip into my pajamas. From there I lie numbly on my bed until my eyes became too heavy to keep open.

I'm walking down the hallway of a home I had never been in but vividly remember.

"Mommy!" I yell

"Bri, Mommy is busy. Can we play later?" I follow the voice into a room to find the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.

"Okay, Mommy. But don't forget!" I pucker my lips

"Yes ma'am" She jokes

I know this isn't my Mom

"Bristol, Daddy's Home!" A man yells from down the stairs.

I race down the stairs and jump into the arms of a man I recognized but had never seen before in my life.

He set me down and started walking towards the kitchen. My bare feet slapped the tile as I followed him.

I know this isn't my Dad because my parents split up when I was three years old and I had to be at least five.

I also know this isn't my home because there are know other children, and I have four siblings. My mother had a hard time getting all of our mouths full. This house was huge.

I race around the house, laughing. I have no control over this me, I wanted to run, to get help but I had no control.

I wake up, tears streaming down my face. I don't rememeber any of that, but I do fear that I am becoming like Dhalia.

I am startled by the ringing of my phone. I pick it up off of the reciever and press the big green button, holding the phone up to my ear.

"Is this Bristol Carbrighter?" A man with a deep, raspy raspy voice says.

"Yes, who is this?"

"See what happens to people when they stick their noses in something?" He asks

"What do you me-" I am cut off by the phone being hung up

***

The next day is hard when I show up at the daycare. Cops are hanging around the entrance, checking the IDs of people who enter the building. I pull out my ID and am about to hand it to the officer.

"No, we know who you are Ms. Carbrighter. You can go ahead."

I go in, and prepare the breakfast for all of the children before heading down to the nursery to feed to babies. As I am finishing up a bottle, Lucas comes in. His eyes are red and puffy. He looks mad.

"They ruled it Suicide!" He yells

Then he leaves the room, leaving me behind, stunned.

Its not suicide and they know it! Nothing was out of place. Even if it was, there was nothing in that room that she could've used! They know well enough that she disn't do this to herself... Somebody else did
