5 YEARS LATER
I waited in the study. The lights were dim so he wouldn't think that I was there. I wasn't in any hurry to leave. I was waiting for Alexander Goldman. He had borrowed money from me and hadn't been paying me back. He made and broke one too many promises. It was time to....collect.
I heard the front door close. My ruby red lips curled into a half smile; he would be here soon. I heard the gentle footfalls of someone coming through the hall. The door opened slowly. I was filled with nervous energy. Even after 5 years I got energized at a confrontation. Alexander's body appeared in the doorway. Alexander Goldman was a scrawny man. I wouldn't consider him handsome, nor would any woman. He had a rat face so that made him even more unappealing. His eyes locked on mine. A look of surprise crossed his face and then a mask of fear manifested onto his face. I smiled sickly sweet. "Alex, would you sit down please? We need to discuss something." I said sweetly. He didn't move. "It wasn't a request." My voice was still sweet but it had a hard edge to it. He darted to the seat in front of the desk I was sitting at. "W-what are y-you h-here to talk t-to me about?" He stammered. Beads of sweat were rolling down his face. "Well you haven't been making payments. That is a problem. I explained all of the terms when you came to me begging for money; you would give me back a portion of my money every Sunday. You haven't made a drop in 5 weeks. I am upset. You never want to make a woman upset, especially me." My voice was hard and he squirmed. " W-well I h-haven't been making much m-money lately. T-that's why I had t-to borrow m-money." "I have been tracking your finances Alex. You could have easily made payment." He looked even more scared when I said angrily, " Where is my money?" My voice was sharp as a knife, cutting throught the thick tension in the air. " Show me to your safe, and I will consider letting you live." His eyes darted to the door. " I wouldn't do that if I were you." I whipped out a pistol. I pointed the barrel right between his eyes. I stood and walked around to Alexander, all while keeping my pistol trained on his forehead. I put my pistol in between his shoulder blades. "Get up and take me to the safe." I growled in his ear. He stood and we walked out together.
We arrived in his bedroom. "Now be a good boy and open the safe." I ordered. He nodded stiffly and proceeded to open the safe. Inside was money and jewelry. My lips split into a smile. "Good boy!" I exclaimed. I snapped my fingers and two burly men appeared. "Get the goods and bring them to the car." The men nodded in unison and followed out my order. After they left Alexander stammered, "Now w-will you l-let me g-go?" "I would, but you have story to tell and I can't let anyone hear it. Goodbye Alexander." I squeezed the trigger. He fell to the floor with a thud. I hit him right between the eyes. His eyes were open and staring at the celing. I bent over him and kissed him leaving a distinct ruby red lip mark on his right cheek. I reapplied my lipstick and left the room and the house without looking back once. I am no longer Anabelle Gray. I am Ruby.
