Renee's POV
I live for music, it's the one thing that makes me smile. I love the melody of the guitar, singing as each string is plucked or strummed. Or the keys on the keyboard in the background, backing up the melody, keys played together to create chords that match up along with the guitar. The bass's low hum giving the song the umph it needs. And the beats of the drums, keeping the other instruments in time, the crash of the cymbals or the thump of the bass drum. And I especially love the lyrics in a song, the voices that make the song come alive. Without music I don't know what I'd do.Ross's POV
My family just moved into this nice new house. It's in a nice neighborhood, every house is really close together and two stories high. I went up to my new room and looked out my window I was about five feet from the next house. It was a bit creepy because the window across from mine was exactly across from mine, and the window was open, so I could see into the room. My bed was beside my window, so I sat down.A girl walked into her room across the way. She had a guitar strapped on her back and a mug in the other. She took a sip the turned her guitar around so it was in front of her. She put the mug down and started strumming. Each chord was played perfectly. She played and sang Let Her Go by Passenger. I loved that song. I looked around her room, feeling like a creep, but I was interested. She had a violin, a keyboard, and a ukulele from what I could see. I smiled, she even had a mic and a sound board. She had her own little recording studio, and she sounded really good. When she stopped playing, she clicked something on her sound board. She was recording. She popped out a cd and put it in a case. I wondered what she did with what she recorded.
Then, she looked up and saw me. Her face was suprised. She ran over and shut the curtains, I could see her still standing there, her hands were gripping the sides. I said, "Wait! I'm sorry! Please, open the curtain." She peaked through the side of the curtain. I said, "I didn't mean to peep, but you were really good. I'm sorry if I scared you." She opened the curtains again, she said, "I didn't know anyone lived in that house." I said, "My family just moved in, can we start over? I don't want you to think you're living next to a creep. I'm Ross." She smiled, "I'm-" someone from downstairs yelled, "We gotta go!" The girl finished, "Late." She left, but then came back, "I'm Renee, it's nice to meet you." Then she closed her window and left.
Renee's POV
I had to go to my brothers soccer game, usually I would walk around or sit in the car and listen to music. My older brother Nick said, "Are you gonna come out and cheer me on?" I said, "I'm just gonna chill in the car." He looked dissapointed, I said, "I'll cheer you on later in the game." He smiled. He came to cheer me on when I had piano competitions. This was all I could be there got him. I plugged my iPod into the cars stereo. I have sensitive hearing so, I kept the volume on low. That's one of the reasons I love music so much. I can pick each part out of a song. So, I can recreate them by ear.I started to doze off to my favorite song, but my elbow was on my screen and accidentally slipped so the volume went up all the way. But, I didn't hear the blast of music, I didn't hear anything. Everything was silent. Dead quiet. I looked out the window, everyone was staring at me. I looked at my iPod, it said it was still playing. I unplugged it, everything was still silent. It was starting to get scary, before, I heard the grasshoppers and the crickets, at least the soccer moms cheering off in the distance. I got out of the car and closer the door, no slam. Why couldn't I hear anything? I ran over to the soccer fields. I saw Nick make a goal and the parents in the crowd cheered. But I couldn't hear them. Oh my gosh, I couldn't hear them. Am I deaf?
Ross's POV
I was fairly unpacked now. Just a few more boxes of mine were still in the van. It was my heavy stuff, and I was tired. I flopped on my bed. I saw the light turn on across the way. The curtains opened, I hid behind the wall, I heard the window latch unlock and the window open. I peaked around the wall. It was Renee, but she had her ukulele on a strap, strapped to her back. She got on the ledge of the window and looked down, she took a deep breath. Was she gonna jump? Is this how she sneaks out?She looked up and grabbed onto the roof above he, she pulled herself and sat up on the roof. She started strumming, then she shook her head in frustration. She threw the ukulele down over the edge, she didn't watch it, so I caught it and put it on my bed. She cried for a while then she went back inside and laid down on her bed, not closing the window. I put the ukulele on my night stand. Why did she want to drop it?
Ross's POV
I woke up to Riker yelling, "Ross! Lets go! We're gonna be late for our first day of school!" Oh yeah, today was our first day at out new school. I looked over at Renee's house, her window and curtains were shut. I'd probably see her at school. We walked to school and went to the front office, we got our schedules and parted ways. Except for me and Rocky, he was in my class for home room.We walked into our first class five minutes late, our teacher Mr. Costa said, "Ah, Mr. Lynch." He looked down at his roster and said, "And, Mr. Lynch." I smiled, he said, "Ross, there's an empty seat next to Renee." He pointed at the seat next to her. "Rocky, there's a seat behind him." We took our seats, girls squealed, recognizing us.
I looked at Renee who was writing something in a notebook, "So, we have class together." She didn't seem to hear me. I poked her shoulder. She looked up, "Oh, hey, we have class together." She smiled and I nodded. I just said that. Renee was in all of my classes except last period. She had that class with Riker though.
We even had lunch together, she let us sit at her table, her friends freaked out when they saw us. Something was strange about her though, when I said something she watched my mouth, and she asked me to repeat things sometimes. After school I walked home with her, every time I looked away when I was talking to her, it was like she couldn't hear me. She couldn't hear me.

My mom appeared in my doorway, "Are you deaf? Go answer the door!" I think that's what she said. I've been reading lips all day. I ran downstairs and opened the door. It was a guy, about the same age as Ross. I said, "Hi." He said, "Hi, I'm Rocky, my family just just moved in next door." He handed me a plate of pink cupcakes. He said, "My sister made them." I laughed, "Okay, have I seen you before?" He said, "Homeroom and ," I couldn't tell of he said fourth or fifth. I nodded, "Cool, well, welcome to the neighborhood." He said, "Thanks."We said goodbye and I put the cupcakes on the kitchen counter. I went back in my room and checked my phone, six missed calls. I changed my ring to flash. So that way instead of my phone ringing, it would vibrate and the flash on my camera would go off. I grabbed my book out of my backpack and laid on my stomach on my bed and started reading.
