I had been looking for Sixx all damn day. I had looked all throughout the cave system, gone outside to see if he was there and asked all around. No one seemed to know or just didn’t care to tell me. Suspiciously enough, Cracken had been missing along with CC and a few others. I started to wonder if they were off making plans or raiding supply units for food but as the day waned, I began to worry. Something was wrong, I could feel it deep in my bones. I didn’t like that I hadn’t seen him, that Jinxx, Ashley and Pitts mysteriously had no clue where Sixx was. I figured that Doll wouldn’t know since she had been resting all afternoon with morning sickness due to her pregnancy, but nonetheless it was disconcerting to think that the boys wouldn’t tell me what was going on.
And it wasn’t until Cracken, CC and one other boy ran into the compound, blood painting their features as their breath rushed in and out of them in heaves. They leaned against the walls while people bustled around them, questions shooting from each mouth. My heart dropped as I stared at the bunch, counting the three and looking avidly for Sixx. I swallowed and stepped towards the throng.
When I reached the front, Cracken’s face was splashed with blood and CC had a hole in his shoulder that needed sutures. The other guy was in better shape, no red colors painting his features but they were all red and burned, lips chapped while they were obviously dehydrated. Water was passed towards them, but I felt no pity for them. I was just wondering where the hell Sixx was if he wasn’t with them. Here in the echoes of all the words flying to and fro, the madness within me was growing. The fury bubbling in my core was white hot, vermillion flashing before my eyes as I stared at the bastards before me. My lip curled and a growl echoed from me.
“Where the fuck is Sixx!”
My screech reverberated off the walls of the cave and the crowd suddenly fell silent. Cracken met my gaze with a look in his eyes that made my vehemence grow. A pity fell into his eyes and I started to snarl.
“He got caught,” CC explained and I rounded on him, poking his open wound and enjoying his screech.
“You just left him there! You fucking left him! When the hell did you leave and why and what the fuck did you think you were doing! You goddamn idiots!” I roared with a hammering heart that threatened to explode. My concern was masked by the rage roiling through me. I wanted to beat the shit out of someone and my hand made for the bow wrapped around my shoulders.
“We didn’t have a choi-” The boy I didn’t know had no chance of continuing his sentence.
“How could you leave him! He would never have left you, you fucking assholes!”
When a hand touched my shoulder, I rounded on that person only to find Jinxx with moroseness sweeping through his dark blue gaze. I choked on my emotions as they welled in my throat. I didn’t know why I was so hurt by the idea of Sixx being hurt or left behind. I couldn’t handle the thought. I wanted to kill whoever had made the decision to leave without rescuing him first. Who could do that to their comrade? After all the years that I had sinned, that I had allowed myself to be baited and used by F.E.A.R., was this my punishment for finally letting someone into my heart? My friend was to be tortured by the evil cretins of that wretched place, left to die by his own comrades?
“We lost Bones to the guards. They shot him in the head,” the nameless kid explained breathlessly while Cracken remained silently catching his breath. I quivered from head to toe.
“What happened to Sixx?” Jinxx questioned as he wrapped an arm around me. Apparently he could see the deadly expression in my eyes, the anger building and threatening to boil over.
