Swiftpaw's mistake

Chapter 2

Brightpaw woke to a paw prodding her in the side. It was Whitestorm. "battle training" whispered Whitestorm Brightpaw nodded to her mentor and stretched the sleep away. she quickly washed her fur then followed Whitestorm out of the gorse tunnel. they headed up the ravine towards the training hollow. "Ok Brightpaw, let's see how your battle skill are." Whitestorm challenged. at that moment Brightpaw walked away. she hid in a Bush on the edge of the hollow. Whitestorm knew that she hadn't gone to far, but he couldn't locate her. Brightpaw waited until Whitestorm had walked right by her Bush in his search for her. claws sheathed, Brightpaw lunged at her mentor, surprising him and knocking him off balance. she bit him softly on the neck, her paws on his chest. "get off me!" Whitestorm said giving in to defeat. Brightpaw let Whitestorm get up.

"how was that?" Brightpaw asked.

"That was good Brightpaw, but-" Whitestorm cut off in the middle of the sentence and lunged at Brightpaw. she expertly dodged out of the way, making Whitestorm look like a fool.

"Come on Whitestorm!" Brightpaw taunted "a kittypet could fight better than that!"

Swiftpaw was on hunting patrol with Longtail, fireheart, and Cloudpaw. Cloudpaw spotted a mouse. he dropped into the hunters crouch and stalked it sloppily. the mouse felt his paw steps and ran off. "Cloudpaw, you need to make your paw steps light and silent if your ever going to catch a mouse." fireheart rebuked. Cloudpaw rolled his eyes and continued to hunt. Swiftpaw scented a thrush, and a moment later he saw it. he stalked it skillfully and made a tremendous leap to catch it.

"Good catch Swiftpaw!" Longtail praised. Cloudpaw gave Fireheart an annoyed look. the patrol returned to camp with their catch just in time to hear the end of Bluestar's summons. Swiftpaw found a spot by Fernpaw and Thornpaw.

"as you all know the patrols have been picking up some strange scents by snakerocks. I forbid all cats of going near them."
