How can Juniper have a life outside of the one she's forced to live,
when what she's decided to live for doesn't seem to want life at all?
It seems Juniper is just stuck, stuck.
PROLOGUE:
My father told me he adopted me, my real parents were no good, I wonder what that makes him.
So far my father has a total of 34 kills. How can thirty four people go missing, and the one responsible stay so far off the radar?
My whole life this man had tried his best to change me, and as I got older I start to see what it was he was really doing at night. I was 12 when the door banged open and he and my schizophrenic uncle, Gary bursted into the trailer with a young girl in their hands. She didn't look any older than me, and all my brain recalls is her sobs from behind the silver tape that covered her mouth.
The sound haunted me for years, until I realized crying over someone who is already dead wouldn't change anything. The more I aged, the more abusive 'Dad' became, constantly throwing things at me and touching me in ways I shouldn't be touched by a father. Eventually he stopped when I got big enough to fight back and notice it wasn’t right, but it hurt that he could have done it to me anyway.
The worst memory I have is from my thirteenth birthday. He told me he wanted to take me out with him to go hunting. I started to bawl immediately, begging him not to make me. It angered him and he kicked me out of the trailer, leaving me stranded in a place I didn’t know. It took him almost 24 hours to sober up and remember what he had done. I didn’t speak to him again for months once they found me again and he never brought it back up.
Did he apologize? No, he says being sorry for something means you were wrong, and he is never wrong. But all of this, this is a life I couldn't change. I'd grown to accept it. But what baffles me the most is how God could throw more at me. Didn’t I have enough to worry about, like keeping safe and out of trouble, to have some strange boy tossed into the mess?
Apparently not.
