(Y/N)

I narrowed my eyes at Laxus, I wouldn't be vulnerable this time, and I'd make sure he knows I still hate him for how he broke my heart. My guildmates noticed my malicious glare and followed it. They were shocked to find Laxus, and took a couple steps back from us, noticing the tense aura surrounding us. My magic even picked up on my emotions and faded blue stars circled me.

We stayed like that for a minute or so, just staring at each other while my guildmates murmured among themselves. The old members understood what was happening, to an extent. They saw Laxus and I grow up together, we were inseparable. On countless occasions we'd be too wild in the guildhall, training or fighting over miniscule things or simply just being too loud, so we'd be kicked out by Master and go to the river and spend all day there together. They knew that we stopped being friends, and as they suspected lovers, as teenagers when Ivan got excommunicated. But they had no idea what exactly happened.

"Why are you here?" I questioned firmly. My family went silent almost immediately when I spoke.

Laxus looked taken aback by this. "What? This is my guildhall too, sweetheart." He replied nonchalantly.

"We all know damn well that you couldn't care less about this guild and the wellbeing of it, so try again, sweetheart." I snapped.

Laxus' eyes became dark and lightning appeared around him. My magic aura became larger and I took a defensive stance, knowing Laxus is always the first to attack, however he looked a bit hesitant for whatever reason.

Suddenly Lucy jumped and stood in the middle of us with her arms out. "Stop!" She yelled.

I watched her curiously and my magic aura diminished, as did Laxus', though I kept a defensive stance. "I know that I haven't been here long, and I know I'm probably ignorant as to why you guys hate each other so much; but it's obvious you both still care about each other deep down! I can tell by how obvious it was that (y/n) was worried about Laxus when she walked into the guild after coming back from her mission and didn't see him there. And I can tell Laxus cares about (y/n) by how he was staring at her while she was fighting Natsu! He tried to hide it but he was looking at her with pride and concern. I don't care how many times you both deny it, you care about each other and nothing's gonna change that. If you both stopped being so stubborn and guarded, maybe you'd be able to open up and fix whatever's been broken." Lucy took a deep breath.

I stared at her in amazement, she had summed up every thought I had in my mind that I couldn't put together. As much as I want to deny it, I still care for Laxus. He is and will always be my family. Even when I hate him, I still love him.

"What do you know, blondie?" Laxus spat, though it was obvious he was thinking about what she pointed out through his stutter only I would notice.

"Shut up, Laxus." I growled, defensive of Lucy. She reminded me so much of my mother, I had to protect Lucy... because I couldn't protect my mother.

"That's enough." Master walked through the crowd surrounding us and glared at Laxus and I. I stood up straight, watching Laxus through the corner of my eye. He was staring directly at me. "Laxus, (y/n), come with me." Master demanded. I obeyed and tailed him.

Laxus snorted rudely and followed, "That's new, you never used to be docile." He chuckled; I felt him staring holes in the back of my head.

"It's not docile, it's called being respectful. You should try it sometime." I jeered over my shoulder at Laxus.

Master sent us both a glare that scared us into silence. We followed him to his office and Laxus shut the door behind him by Master's request.

"You both are being immature and stubborn." I was taken aback by how angry Master was over this.

"You used to be so close, and you let these stupid little fights get in the way of that. I have no clue what happened between you but I want this silly feud to end now. Everything Lucy said was right. You're both in Fairy Tail, you're guildmates, family! Act like it." Master snapped. I stayed silent; I didn't realize how much Laxus and I's friendship had affected Makarov. Master was able to see his grandson have a friend for the first time and he watched as Laxus and I grew into better people because of each other. And suddenly that all crumbled and Laxus became the troubled person he still is today.

"I'm sorry." I whispered, more to myself than Master or Laxus. They both stared up at me and I just looked at my feet.

"Because of this, I want you two to go on a mission together."

"What?" I spit out, looking up at Master with wide eyes.

"No way, old man." Laxus scoffed.

"This is mandatory. If you don't do this you both will be suspended from taking any missions until I see fit to lift it."

Laxus angrily stormed out of the office. I remained and looked up at Master. He sighed. "I'm sorry (y/n), this is more for Laxus than you. He's been getting worse and worse and I've been trying to fix him but nothing has been working and I'm scared of what he'll do." You're scared he'll end up like Ivan. "Please, just do me this favor."

"Of course." I replied emotionlessly. You don't know how painful this will be for me.

"Thank you." Master nodded graciously and I left the office. As I walked through the guildhall I stared at the ground, a million thoughts racing through my head. They were all based around one thing though, Laxus.

I broke out of my own world and noticed the strange silence in the guildhall. I looked up and saw everyone's eyes on me. Instinctively I straightened up and put my emotionless mask on, similar to how I was when Laxus betrayed me. "What are you staring at?"

They stayed silent until Erza spoke up. "Laxus just left very... angry. What happened?"

"That's normal for him." I said dismissively. I walked faster and noticed a fresh hole in the wall next to the guildhall doors. "Idiot." I murmured to myself, shaking my head and leaving the guild.

I walked down the street, staring up at the purple sky. The sun had just set and the sky was that beautiful transition grayish purple shade- not quite day yet not quite night.

I felt something wet on my face and gingerly touched it. I looked at my fingers and noticed droplets of water. "I didn't realize it started to rain." I murmured to myself, as more water rolled down my cheeks onto my chin.

Except it wasn't raining.

The sky was cloudless that night.
