Part 6: Sweet

*The following morning...

"And how do you explain this Haru?" Hauko asked menacingly with a devilish aura behind her while holding out Haru's thermometer.

Ren was fine. A little rain was nothing for Ren... That is another disadvantage to Haru. He caught a cold and a fever exceeding 40 degrees.

"Tsk, if this can take you out, then you a wimp! You are even beaten by a kid. Look at Ren! The kid even has a stronger immunity than you. Ergh teens nowadays are really weak..." Haruko scolds Haru.

"Well, can't argue with that though..." Haru chuckles at his sick state.

"Erghhh. Just get better. I need to go now, another deadline is coming right up. Ren I am putting you in charge of Haru." With that Ren nodded and Haruko went out of the door leaving the siblings alone in their room.

*Noon

We all know that Ren would go out at this time to play with the dogs, but he stayed for he took the responsibility to care for a sick Haru. This actually saddens Haru, chaining the boy to burden himself to care for him.

"Ren, don't worry about me... just go out and play baby bro." Haru spoke as he stared at Ren' s small form.

Upon hearing his name, the young brunette glanced over to Haru.

"Though I wanted to, I can't... Haruko is the boss and she placed me in charge of taking care of you." Ren made his point.

Ren's reply made Haru smiled, but suddenly a scowl marked his face as a thought popped up to his mind.

'If mom is the leader according to Ren, then she is on top of the pyramid. Then he would prefer the dogs over me, making them second from Haruko... Then what the heck does this brat think of me? Am I at the base?' Haru mentally sighed.

*A/N:

The pyramid that Haru is talking about is like a caste system. It is a system that divides individuals into certain tiers. At the top tier on the top of the pyramid holds the most powerful person while the power decreases downwards, making the base of the pyramid the weakest ones.

'What kind of hierarchy is going on in this kid's mind?' Haru stares at Ren.

"Do you want something to eat?" Haru's thoughts were interrupted as Ren asked him.

"Ahh, no need, but thank you Ren." Haru scratched his nape.

"Okay then..." Ren went to return to his seat next to Haru's bed.

"Then again..." Haru trailed off.

"Huh?" Ren was puzzled.

"Ren I kinda feel lonely. I'd like you to sleep here with me Ren." Haru requests as he scooted a little to make room for Ren to climb in.

Ren observes Haru and eyes him a little if he was joking but seeing the seriousness and sincerity in Haru's eyes, Ren can't say no.

"Okay, I will."

"What?! Really?!!!" Haru exclaimed. 

'I really thought that he would turn me down.' Haru felt relieved.

Ren made his way to the bed and lied next to Haru, facing the older one. Having his older brother instincts kick in, Haru placed Ren's head on his arm and pulls the boy closer to him using his other hand. Ren felt quite nice next to Haru. Haru's scent was very relaxing and he felt protected. It was like Cinnamon. On the other hand, Haru caught Ren's scent of Pine and Cedar wood.
