I watched her hand drop from my shoulder, and picked up my pace as she walked down the hallway.
“H-hey,” I called, “w-where are you going?”
“Carsyn’s house, why?”
“I was hoping I could come over, perhaps,” I mumbled.
“I would totally let you, but you have a disgusting creep on your heels.”
“C-creep?!” The words slipped my mouth, and I turned in disgust. Booker was certainly not a creep.
“Don’t talk to me,” I spat.
“Rhea, I didn’t mean-”
“Booker means a lot to me, okay?!”
“What did I just tell you? He’s not worth your time!”
“I changed my mind,” I snap, crossing my arms over my chest.
Faith stared at me in disbelief, her jaw hanging open as the words slip out of my mouth. I slowly shook my head, our eyes meeting as I bit down on my bottom lip.
“You’re my best friend, Rhea,” she spoke, her voice trembling, “but I can’t be around you if that guy is following you places. It’s creepy.”
“You’re the creepy one, I mean, who the fuck pokes and prods at peoples biceps?”
“Make a choice, Rhea! It’s him or me.”
My face turns hot and I watch as tears brim over her eyes. She lets out a puff of air, and turns her back.
“Fuck you, Rhea,” she spoke, her tears evident in her voice, “you filthy whore.”
My heart sunk, but I didn’t let it show. I don’t need her, I repeated in my head, I don’t need her.
“Leave me alone,” she cried.
I took a step towards her, placing my hand on her back. She quickly swatted my hand away, and she stomped a few feet down the hall.
“I said, leave me alone!”
I watched as she walked down the hallway, letting her fist crash into the side of a metal locker before she exited through the side door. I reached into my pocket, searching around for my phone. I curse under my breath, remembering I never asked for Booker’s number. However, after looking through my contacts, I see his name. He probably put it in when I slept at his place, I thought.
“Hello?” I spoke through the phone.
“Yeah, hi,” Booker’s replied.
“Can you maybe, perhaps, meet me at-”
“I’ll be there in five.”
“Thanks.”
I sighed in relief as I stuck my phone back in my pocket. I imagined Matt, staring blankly at me in disappointment. Rhea, you have to promise me, please. His words echoed in my mind, and I pressed my fingers to my temple, shaking my head. My thought of him disappeared as I felt a hand on my wrist, finding a spot so familiar that I already know it was him.
“You okay?” he breathed, pulling me closer to his body.
“Y-yeah, I just, can we go?”
“Yeah, c-course,” he stuttered, surprised.
