Run. Run. Run.
That's all you could think as your legs pushed you farther into the dark, murky forest.
You had been hiking with your boyfriend, when he fell and scraped his knee. The injury wasn't bad at all? Just drew some blood.
But that was enough to draw the attention of a horrible, blood-thirsty creature.
The creature was there in an instant, tearing your lover in shreds as if he were a piece of paper.
Now you were racing through the forest, shirt torn and stained with your blood. Your ears ringed loudly as you tried to push your legs faster.
There was a clearing up ahead, you could see the green grass, the many colorful flowers that mapped the floor of the clearing. A meadow.
And there were people! Actual people there. You cried out in joy as your legs moved numbly under you.
The human figures became clearer as you came closer to the clearing. Still running, you looked behind you to see if the red-eyed creature was still following. Stupid idea.
You tripped, smacking face first into a healthy-fallen branch. Warm blood oozed from your nose as you held your head.
The beautiful creature was approaching you with fast speed. You were gonna die, you knew that for sure. You just prayed that it would be quick and painless.
100 feet.
75 feet.
51 feet.
19 feet.
6 feet.
A sob raked through your body as you screwed your eyes shut and tried to brace yourself for an unnatural death.
But it never came, instead inhumane sounds, growls, reached your ears.
You peeled an eye open and looked for the reason, only to see a two large boys fighting the creature.
You didn't waste time, you had none to waste. You scrambled your feet, noting the pain in your right ankle.
You limped into the clearing, but ran into a boulder. Strong, cold arms caught you and you looked up. You realized it wasn't a boulder that you ran into, it was a man.
You frowned, suddenly feeling self-conscious as you stared at his heart-shaped face. Honey-blonde locks of hair matched his breath taking golden eyes.
" Are you okay ? " His deep, magical voice brought you out of your trance.
Blood ran into your cheeks as you realized his arms were firmly placed around your waist. You shook your head, not knowing if it was this strangers intense beauty or the terror you felt moments ago.
His eyes left your face and he peered over your shoulder. A fierce, animalistic growl rippled through his chest as he pushed you flush against his chest.
" Laurent! " He seethed out, his arms tightening around you.
" Jasper, my dear friend. " The monster spoke in a beautiful voice. He didn't even sound like he was from this world.
" Jasper, I don't like my food being toyed with, please, let my snack go. " The man spoke again.
Jasper. Jasper. Unique, beautiful name seemed to fit the stranger who held you, perfectly.
" She's human, Laurent! She's not a meal. " Another growl broke through Jasper.
" I know she's not a meal. " Laurent's beautiful laugh broke through the intense atmosphere. " That's why I said snack. She's to small to be a meal. " Distaste laced his tone.
Suddenly you felt a strand of your hair being pulled and someone behind you sniffed it.
" Does this human not smell edible to you, Jasper ? " Laurent took another whiff of your hair. " I bet it taste exquisite! " He called you an it !
Jasper shoved you aside and took ahold of Laurent's neck in one swift motion. A sickening snap ripped through the air, making your body go stiff.
Jasper was next to you again, and you were safely in his arms.
" Darlin' are you okay ? Did he hurt you ? " He rushed out.
" N-No. But he hur- killed Alex, my boyfriend. " You began to sob softly in Jasper's chest.
A wave of calmness and peace washed over you in an instant as Japer spoke.
" It's okay... You're okay. "
