A New Life: Sequel to Amber

Chapter 1

Amber's POV

"Link where am I?"  I asked.

"You're home. Welcome to your new and permanent home, Amber Grace Neal, and if you want, you can call me Dad," Link said with the biggest and happiest smile I'd ever seen.

Tears formed in my eyes and I ran to him, engulfing him in the tightest hug. He picked me up and spun me around as I tightly held him.

"Thank you so, so much, Li- I mean, Dad. This is the greatest moment of my life!" I said as I cried tears of joy on his shoulder. 

"Amber, you mean so much to me. I love you so much and the fact that you're my daughter now just makes me the happiest man in the world! I love you, Amber. Never forget how much you matter to me," Dad said and held me close to him.

Pretty soon, I felt Rhett's and Christy's arms around us as well. This was such an amazing moment. Never before in my life had I felt so greatly loved by anyone. My parents never showed me love, they hated me, but then there was Link. After I ran away, he took care of me. He saved my life, he adopted me. He was the best person in the world in my eyes and I loved him so much.

"I love you too, Dad and I'll never forget. You, truthfully, are the best thing that has ever happened to me. Before you, my life was so hard. My parents hated me, I had no friends. No one loved me at all, until you came along. Thank you Dad, Rhett, and Christy, for showing me that the world isn't as horrible as I thought. I thought everyone was a cruel monster, but that's definitely not the case. Thank you," I said as the tears still fell.

We let go of the hug and all sat down on the couch. I leaned on Dad and he put his arm around me.

"Amber, you don't have to thank us for doing what we wanted to do. We wanted to help you, we all love you so much and wanted what was best for you. I wanted you safe, I wanted to be able to know that you're safe everyday. Knowing what you have gone through, I feel that I must make the rest of your life as good as I possibly can and to start, I got some ice cream!" Dad said and jumped up.

I laughed at how childish he could be sometimes. Childish in a good way. He ran into the kitchen and returned with a huge tub of triple chocolate ice cream and large waffle cones. He began to fill them up with the chocolaty treat and handed me the first one.

"Thanks, Dad," I smiled and took my first lick.

It had been years since I had tasted ice cream and I couldn't love it anymore. Once Dad had distributed the ice cream to everyone, he sat down next to me once more. A few tears of joy were still falling and Dad noticed. Very gently, with the back of his thumb, he wiped the tear away.

"No need to cry, Amber. It's going to be alright," he said and smiled at me.

I smiled back and nodded my head before leaning on his once more. He wrapped his arm around me once more and I quickly finished off the ice cream. I was getting so tired. I wanted to stay awake, but my body wasn't letting that happen. My eyelids got heavy and my muscles relaxed as fell into a deep and happy sleep.

Link's POV

We were all eating our ice cream, when I felt Amber go limp. I looked down at her and saw she had fallen into a deep and restful sleep. A smile spread across my face and I took the last bite of my ice cream. I gently put my arms around her and picked her up. I carried her to her room and tucked her into bed. I kissed her forehead gently and smiled at my daughter's happy expression. I was so lucky to have her.

"Good night, baby. I love you so much," I said and turned out the lights. 

I quietly closed her door and met up with Rhett and Christy once more. They had started getting ready to leave. Rhett walked over to me first and gave me a small hug.

"Good luck, man. I'm so happy you did this for her. Night, brother," Rhett said and left.

"Good night, Rhett," I said as he walked to his car in the pitch black night.

"Would you like some help cleaning up?" Christy asked.

"Sure, there's not a whole lot, but thank you, Christy," I said with a smile.

"Of course. It's not an issue at all. I did offer to help, after all," she said and helped me clean up the ice cream.

I straightened everything up and then we were done.

"I told you there wasn't much," I said with a laugh.

"Oh that's alright. I still got to help a little," she said and smiled.

She grabbed my hand and took me over to the couch. I sat down and she cuddled against me. I put my arm around her and she leaned her head on my chest. Gosh, I love her so much! She looked up at my lips longingly, and then my eyes to ask permission. I smiled and leaned down. She put her hand on my chest and our lips met. They were so soft and fit perfectly with mine. We kissed passionately for what felt like an eternity. As we pulled away, I realized I was starting to get very tired. 

"Christy, I need to go to bed soon. I can hardly keep my eyes open. Sorry to kick you out like this, but I'm going to fall asleep," I said and sure enough, as soon as I stopped talking, my head rolled back and my mouth opened.

Christy's POV

I smiled as Link fell asleep, his mouth hanging slightly open. I stood up and stretched. I did my best to reposition him, so he was more comfortable and wouldn't wake up sore in the morning. After I got him to lie down, I found a soft blanket and wrapped it around him. I placed a gentle kiss on his cheek and put on my coat and shoes. I locked the door on my way out and left to go home. I wonder what Link and Amber will do tomorrow? He said he wanted to take her somewhere, but he didn't know where yet. He was such a wonderful person. I loved him so much. How lucky I was that he had met me and we began dating. He was so perfect in every way and I couldn't imagine being happy without him in my life.

This chapter wasn't the greatest, I apologize, but it starts getting really good in the next one. This was more of a filler chapter, so please, so read the next one before you click away.
