Sam and Tucker. No big deal talking to those two. Just an ordinary conversation. No problem at all. Only if you happened to be their deceased friend who just decided to lead them and their entire class through an alternate dimension. Yeah, then you were in trouble.
These kind of ridiculous thoughts were floating through Danny's head.
It had been a dumb idea just to say he was awake at this time of night and invited people over to talk to him. 'Real smart Danny.'
He decided to tell the whole class that he was awake around midnight and would be open to answering questions. So that they could talk to him in private if they wanted.
Tonight Sam and Tucker wanted to chat with him and probably a few others but Sam and Tucker were first. Dangerous to say the least. Of course telling them would be the end of all his anxiousness but he was afraid of the consequences. Danny had once looked into the Timestream and had seen that in every future that he told them HE would come back. He would come back and try to destroy everything he loved again. Clockwork wouldn't be there to save him. He couldn't go crying back home once the bully had won, there wouldn't be a home to run to. Not anymore.
Danny squared his shoulder and took a deep breath one last time and floated towards Sam and Tucker. The first thing he saw were Sam's purple eyes. Those violet orbs that could captivate him like no others could. He sighed and averted his gaze. Tucker's eyes were filled with longing. He didn't know why yet but he was going to find out soon.
He teleported them to a place where nobody could find them for the moment.
"Hi, Chronos." Tucker began.
"We're sorry for judging you back there. We didn't mean to hurt your feelings." Sam continued.
"I get it, guys, don't worry about it." He commented.
"We wanted to talk to you about that. You say you're a new ghost and we wanted to ask what it felt like...dying." Tucker said.
"Go ahead ask a question, don't feel bad about it. That's why I asked people to come and talk to me."
"You were hurt in a fight, right? You died because of a fatal injury. How does that affect you now?"
"The first few days were hell. The place of the fatal wound kept throbbing every time I remembered that I wasn't alive anymore. I had the chance to look at my friends and was just heartbroken that none of them were smiling. My crush kept telling the air she loved me and that she should've told me sooner. I couldn't break her heart again, by saying I loved her too but not being able to maintain a relationship with her. I'm going to be very busy when I become Time Master and she wouldn't be able to visit me or vice versa."
"That's so said. I'm sorry for you."
"Me too man, that is...that's harsh."
"What else would you like to know?"
"You knew about Danny's situation right?"
"That he was a halfa? Yes."
"Why didn't he return as a ghost? I thought that already having a ghost half would kind of guarantee that he would return."
"Death doesn't work that way. Your friend passed on into oblivion because there wasn't anything holding him back. He didn't need to return as a ghost. He didn't have any ties holding him back from going to Amantissimus. The land of the beloved."
"So he didn't believe that we would need him?" Sam asked while choking up.
It is at these sort of moments that Danny wanted to rip his heart out for being such a complete asshat towards his friends.
