I fumbled in the dark for my phone after the ringing woke me up. I squinted at the bright screen before pressing it to my ear.

"mfhellow?" I grumbled into the mouth piece.

"Ames?" It was liam, he sounded anxious

"Yeah it's me, what's up?" I asked lying back down.

"Nothing, I just couldn't sleep and I wanted to check that you're okay." he said with a sigh.

"Liam I'm fine, now can I go back to sleep?" I said turning onto my side and balance my phone on my ear.

"Yeah but can you just stay on the line?" He asked, and I heard his blankets rumple beneath him.

"Sure," i started to respond but I was cut off by a mechanical whirring on the other end.

"Liam? What's that noise?" I asked.

"It's my printer." he said sounding confused.

"Why is your printer going off at 2 am? Better question, what is it printing off?" I said.

There was silence for a bit and the whirring got louder so he must have walked closer to it.

"Ames, it won't stop printing." liam said panicked. I could hear him jamming the buttons trying to turn it off.

"Try unplugging it from the wall." I said sarcastically.

The noises from the printer stopped after that but there was a continued silence.

"Liam? What was it printing?" I asked with sleep in my voice.

"it doesn't matter just go to sleep I'll tell you tomorrow." he said nervously.

I sighed. "Do you want me to stay on the line?" I asked.

"Could you please." he said quietly sounding tired.

"Yeah, Good night liam." I said putting my phone on the mattress next to my pillow.

I could hear liam's goodnights as i quickly fell back asleep.

When I got to school I saw liam walking quickly towards the front doors while glancing side to side nervously

I quickened my pace to catch up with him.

"hey, are you okay? You seem nervous." I put my hand on his shoulder when I got to him. He turned his head sharply to look at me and gave an audible sigh.

"I'm fine, don't worry." he said brushing it off.

"liam, hey am I gonna see you at the bonfire tonight?" mason said coming out of nowhere.

"Uh, I'm thinking about skipping it." liam said avoiding eye contact.

"You're not skipping it." Mason shook his head.

"Why not?" liam asked.

"Because you're on the lacrosse team, don't you have to go?" mason said, crossing his arms.

"I don't know." liam stuttered and looked down the hall nervously. "I don't think I can make it."

Mason and I exchanged a confused look.

"You're coming, and we're gonna find you a nice girl to embarrass yourself in front of, and find amara and I a lacrosse player, because statistically speaking someone on your team has got to be on my team." mason said.

I watched liam as he continued to glance down the hallway nervously.

"liam." I said softly to get his attention putting my hand on his shoulder softly.
